You'll find anything government program related in the US a pain in the ass to deal with here. I recently had a moment when dealing with the county clerk & recorder to get my yearly registration for my automobile where I legit had to put them on hold while I took time to cool down. They totally fucked up my registration and were giving me excuse after excuse (like "we can't control what happens when we mail out your tags sir") why it wasn't their fault. Thing is, I had to pay for an extra registration and wouldn't you know, miraculously I receive two in the mail on the same day.
You'll find that when dealing with people who work for the govt. they just don't really care and will do the bare minimum to get you on your way (or pass you along to someone else who is just as clueless).

And yet I have never had a problem. At all. Ever.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

It's a big country full of all types of people, but I've never gotten anything but kindness from public clerks either.
My only advice to you is that you're gonna see a lot of clothes in the upper range of sizes here in the U.S. This is because American clothes are made to shrink after one wash. So if you're like a Medium shirt in SA, try buying all new clothes in XXL or higher and you should be good. And as BK can tell you, JNCOs are all you need for pants.

This isn't a problem as long as you don't buy clothes from Walmart!
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

OK, I'll get rid of that one then. It tried to do something funky to me, but my antivirus stopped it.
Sorry, I had thought it was an aberration as the site otherwise seems to be fine.
EDIT maybe it's one of those first-time-to-the-site-it-spams-you things?

I went to Roberta’s for pizza. Had the bee sting. Was excellent
Cousins took me skiing today. Was epic. I sucked at first and wasn’t having a good time but once I figured it out it became a blast. I’m sad I won’t get to do a real hill. I can see why people love the sport.

Anything east of the Mississippi is not skiing, it is just walking around with sticks clamped to your feet. Real skiing takes place in the Rocky Mountains. If there isn't a sign with 4 black diamonds at the entry to the run, then you're just pretendin'.

I agree and I disagree. There is absolutely good skiing on the East Coast. It's just not found in the tri-state area. You'd have to go to upstate Vermont or Maine or New Hampshire. And it's not the same kind of skiing as what you'd get out West. But it's still skiing and it's still fun — even if it's hard pack on a defined trail instead of off-piste powder.

So the New York 911 memorial is free for soldiers, 12 dollars for police and firefighters of New York and 24 dollars for regular people. Given that the police and firefighters are the ones who died, or may have friends who died at the twin towers shouldn’t they get free entrance?
I see soldiers get discounts everywhere, everyone thanks them for their service but then most of the homeless or beggars I have seen are either soldiers or claim to be soldiers. It’s weird.
The government shutdown is insane. If you stopped paying government employees in sa for even a week they would be burning down government offices and killing managers, not even a slight exaggeration.

Because nobody has a mortgage requiring regular payments, right?
How fucking stupid are these people? Do they really just view this shutdown as free time off?
