I wouldn't say insanely stupid. Just so highly principled as to be unrealistic, and potentially tragic. In the Shakespearean sense.

Fuck the high road, I would have gone with Option A and had a good night's sleep knowing something was never, ever going to be a threat again.
I think I would have made a good Operative in the Firefly universe - doing nasty shit so good people could sleep safe. (Aside from the complete lack of coordination, talent, intelligence etc. :killingme: )

Yeah, it would have been much more interesting for the development of the show if they'd let the original plan play out.

Ach, can't read the thread. I'm about 12 episodes in. I love it! I don't want to but I do. I thought it was too much action, not enough science. It has it's flaws but I do love it.

Show runners are both out, and Alex Kurtzman (The Mummy 2017, ST: ID, and the TRANSFORMERS movies) is taking over as show runner.

It sounds like the show runners were dicks...but Kurtzman's track record with the stuff he produces is spotty at BEST...so this is probably bad news.

Saw Tig Notaro on a talk show a month or so ago. She said she was joining the cast of the show in season 2. Which makes me want to watch it more. Seems like they are going for the diversity thing, a la Whoopi Goldberg joining Next Generation, which is a good thing.

Kurtzman was already executive producer of Disco, so I don't know how drastically that move will change things? (He is a terrible writer, though.)

Too bad this is on something called CBS Axis or CBS Access or some such shit. I wish I knew what it was and how it worked. Alas, probably have to wait until this goes into syndication to watch it.

I see the resemblance of Zach Quinto to Leonard Nimoy, ergo this guy to them both. Fair enough?

As much as I could not get into S1 because it didn't feel like Star Trek....this new season looks SO much like Star Trek to me...I'm actually excited to watch!

After a second watch of the trailer: Fuck it, I'm in like flynn! This looks and sounds fantastic!

Also, note the subtle changes like the lighting being MUCH more like TNG or DS9 now compared to S1, even the bridge shots have been lightened. This is important to me.

Nothing is radically changing about the formula or vibe of the show. It was just you having to be "that guy" about season 1. If you disliked season 1, you should probably dislike (or should I say loathe) season 2. You can't decide to change your mind midstream after you have boarded, know what I'm sayin' ? Posted Image

The captain seems pretty generic. Otherwise, it looks good!

I'm on episode 7 of the first series, the time loop one.

Thus far, I'm enjoying it. Is it Star Trek? Probably not, but I've never been a picky enough Trekkie to write something off for that reason alone (I actually enjoy the new films, for what they are, regardless of the fact they are very much not Trek). I agree with comments above that Michael isn't really a thrilling protagonist but neither is that detracting from my enjoyment.

New series looks interesting!

Season 2 opener.

Well that was fucking spectacular!

I was not into last season, but an hour and change into s2 and I’m all in!

Again. You can't shit all over last season (and go on an on ad nausea about gripes that don't matter or have little to do with the actual stories being presented) then all of a sudden have a change of heart and do a 180. If you want to be 'that guy' (and be contrarian to stand out for the attention) then own it. Don't come skipping in and saying how much you love it now when nothing about the basic formula has changed.

Isn’t he “owning it” though? He said he didn’t like S1 but an hour and change in he has liked what he has seen of S2. What does he have to do to “own it” exactly?

I mean does he really have to write up a thesis of why an hour of S2 was better then the entirety of S1 in his opinion? Can’t someone change their minds without being “that guy or gal”?

Don't worry about it BK. I don't even see the posts.

---------------------------------

On the topic of the show with people who may actually want to discuss it though, you MIGHT be into this season BK. It's an all new story so you don't REALLY need to know much about S1 (though there are primers out there to get your through it), and Pike is a hell of a Starfleet captain (and Anson Mount is excellent in the role)...they actually named the Bridge crew (which I hear they didn't do in S1), it's no longer dismally lit (because without Mirror Universe Lorca needing it dark, Discovery is now lit brightly), and we're off and running on a non-spore drive (it's been mothballed for being too dangerous) Trek season.

It now feels like the Prime Universe movies (production quality is that high, on effects, sets ect.), and they added Tig Notaro to the cast (she's hilarious)...it felt like a proper hour of Star Trek to me. So I can have the Orville to fill that classic TNG vibe, and this to fill something new. Plus, Doug Jones is always great.

Anyway, worth a look if you feel so inclined to see if you might like S2.

Ansom Mount is a perfect Roland of Gilead back in his Hell on Wheels(watch that!) days. He is a wonderful actor

That's one of those shows that's on my list for future watching. Just haven't got round to it yet.
