Started season 2. The first season was excellent and I love all the characters, especially Phillipa and Tilly.

Ooh and Pike is here! He's one of the best officers in the game.

Pike has "trying to be cool Dad" vibes and it is THE BEST.

Hah yes! I didn't quite pick up on that from the one episode I've watched with him in but now you mention it, that's exactly it!

The ending of S2 is going to absolutely bake your melon. Enjoy!

I think its a toss up with between Pike's "I'm your cool dad" and Georgiou's "And I'm your slightly psychopathic mom" for which is the best character in season 2
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. Ö So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. These two and Tilly's inappropriate and awkward enthusiastic outbursts are absolutely the core of why I love this show right now.

Letís see how the rest of ep goes now.

The Klingons get...er...fixed in S2. They look more like they do in every other bit of Trek media.

The showrunners of S1 were fired for abuse of their cast and crew, so S2 onwards does a bunch of little fixes. Nothing major, but notable.

The Spore Drive is actually really cool. It gives a non-warp way to travel through the universe. And the ship-flip effect for it is Cool AF. Black Alert, btw, means spore drive jump.

I don't want to spoil anything for you, but hope you keep watching and catch up. This is now my second favourite Trek show just under TNG, and when it started I hated it. Take that as you will.

If it helps, I picked it up in S2 and watched the whole season only having there vaguest idea about the events of S1...and only saw S1 after the fact. So you should be fine from Ep 5 onwards to pick up the gist of it.

At what point does Michelle Yeoh just start wiping out entire ship crews?

So this episode which is a kind of sequel of a really old episode is pretty fun. The one with the Talosians and Vina...

Also I'm definitely over Doctor Culver being all moody and "I died Paul, get away from me!" I dunno it drags the rest of the episode. I really like Stamets so I'm rooting for him.

It annoyed me too. It doesn't last forever, it's just PTSD.

Sidebar: Since this shoots in Toronto, last spring I was walking down the street to my house from the drugstore and Stamets (Anthony Rapp) walked by me and I had to do a double take. Crazy to see those Trek actors just walking around.

Also, did everyone know that there is a real Paul Stamets? He's a real life Mycelial biologist. I guess they named the Trek version after him because...mushroom travel! What a cool little Tuckerization of a real life individual!

Oh I get it and I should be more patient with him but I think in this episode his scenes kind of jarred and took me out of the action somewhat. Though that confrontation with Tyler in the canteen was great fun.

Around that point in series 2 was when I firmed up my belief that everybody on the Discovery needs a therapist!

Indeed. And I mean, knowing that they were essentially all hand-picked to be aboard a Black Ops Secret Project ship, I'm not at all surprised they are messed up individuals.

You should have thrown a pokeball at him.
