He was the greatest until Messi came along. He got there with an internal fire and stubborn whimsy that he brought into everything he did - for better or worse.
I count myself lucky to have seen him play on TV a few times in the early 90s.
But I also count myself lucky that I didn't really have to grapple with the shitty things he did.

I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Genius on the field, but a complete shitshow off it.
I think the phrase I heard most from others today in reference to his death was "Didn't he die ages ago?".
I must admit I didn't give him good odds of making 60 even 10-20 years ago.

Before my time, but what highlights I've seen of him, I'm not of the opinion Maradona was so exceptional that he is considered having such separation in talent from the other greats.
Also, cocaine is a hell of a drug.

He was a great in a time of a lot of average players yes, but he would have shone in the current game too, maybe even better with modern training and management to keep him on the rails

This seems a bit of a stretch.
But also set highlights to one side and consider the wins with Argentina and Napoli, which are almost universally acknowledged to be him lifting fairly average sides to success.
Also, this anecdgote.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Any of the festive fixtures pique your interest? The yuletide period is usually rather cracking, yeah? It's also about the time during the campaign where the rubber meets the road and we get some separation too, yeah?

Tottenham vs Fulham match cancelled today? Didn't get the details. I'm guessing it is Covid? Is that the case?

Dont think they'll be far off suspending the prem league. Which will have knock on effects for the Euros. Something is going to have to give...

Frank Lampard sacked at Chelsea.
Chelsea probably rates as my most hated side, but I rather liked Lampard. A year and a half he had a go at the job. Pressure is on to get results, but it seems as if Chelsea club and culture he was allowing to settle in was mid-table mediocrity. Unacceptable for that club in the long run.
