I think football makes far more sense as a soap drama, and on that basis Bale coming back is great tele. Whether it makes a tangible difference, who knows?

Oh boy, Covid really did a number on the Uki national team. 15 players on the roster are benched (some with injuries, though), including 3 starter keepers.
After the Nations League beatdown we got from Spain (4:0, expected, we suck against Spain), we had a 4th choice 26 y.o keeper make his national debut in a friendly against France (lost, 7:1), followed by a Nations League double header against Germany today (lost 2:1), and Spain on Wed.
That's gotta be brutal for the kid. Germany was in pretty poor form today, way too many mistakes; But we played even worse; missing some key players with international experience like Konoplyanka, Zinchenko and Stepanenko really hurt the team play. Germany was fumbling the ball outside their box, but there just wasn't enough good players there to capitalize on that. 75th minute penalty made it 2:1 and it looked like things could get interesting; but there just wasn't anyone there to even take a good shot. very frustrating game to watch, both teams I really like, both not playing in anywhere near top form.

Huh, and then we go on and beat Spain at home. First time UA ever beat Spain in an international match.
Now the group looks really weird, with Spain at 7 points, and us and Germans with 6 apiece (2 wins for us, 1 win 3 draws for them. We play them in November, and as long as we don't lose again, we can for sure avoid relegation. (unless the Swiss manage to beat Spain, then it's gonna be do or die in the last game).
Still, good showing for what is essentially Ukraine's B team, largely. Hopefully by Nov we get more key players back.

Happy for a player to nearly have his leg broken, be out for the season and probably end his career at that level he was at.
Yep, you're definitely a United fan.
Probably have a poster of Roy Keane on your wall too ending Halaand career

They should ban Pickford for life. Total idiot. And the Netherlands is screwed for 2021. Gods I am so pissed off. First Koeman, now Van Dijk.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

To bring levity to the tension building here, I used to have a poster of Landon Donovan on my wall.
He had THE goal of the 2010 World Cup. I'll fight you if you disagree.

Ha! Saw some highlights of Belgium 2 - nil win over England.
Pickford is the goalie for England. That must really cheese off certain fans.

If you haven't watched the HBO documentary - Diego Maradona - give it a go. Quite the life he was living during his heyday.
