And of course there are bootlickers defending his non-dom tax evasion scam whilst serving as chancellor of the exchequer because it was 'legal', despite that if you or me did anything of the sort we'd be looking at no less than a decade in prison.

'To make matters worse, it soon emerged that Sunak held a U.S. green card while serving as Britain’s finance minister. That essentially meant he’d declared himself a permanent American resident for tax reasons while also overseeing tax hikes at home.'

lol...

'he had declared himself a “permanent US resident” for tax purposes for 19 months while he was chancellor and for six years as an MP.'

I guess it comes from being selected and not elected…

He is not as bad as Liz Trusd was as far as I can tell, but he has no charisma either. The jokes about his robotic delivery seem spot on. Bizarre and stilted cadence.

Charisma isn’t how I would choose my leaders. They need substance first but it’s certainly an important attribute.

Could we start w the basics: is he, or is he not, likely to try to freeze to death a large chunk of the population, then deny the survivors health care?

Also, if Scotland says 'fuck this mess, we're out', is he going to smile and wave, or send in troops?

I'd have said he was marginally less likely to do the first than Truss. But he's made Suella Braverman home secretary again, so all bets are off. Ignore my silver lining comment about Rees-Mogg, she's the sort of right wing lunatic that makes him look vaguely sensible.

As to Scotland? I'd imagine he's more palatable than Truss and her clear venomous hatred of Nicola Sturgeon, but Sturgeon still can't stand the Tories in general so they might well leave the Union either way.

I acknowledge my under-informedness on this subject, but have seen told that were Scotland to exit the UK and join the EU, the impact would be workable. Inaccurate?

Scotland would not join the EU, France and Spain would veto that HARD. They have regions that want to separate, so would make damned sure it didn't look attractive.

But outside of that the SNPs dreams of a socialist paradise based on the Norwegian model is frankly delusional, the ship has sailed for putting the oil money into a sovereign fund long ago. BP would shift operations back down to Newcastle, along with its jobs and expertise. And the MOD will fuck off, with the 100,000 odd jobs it carries, with all that filthy over spend money that comes with it.

Tourism, salmon farms and the hope they get rights to the oil and gas in the north sea (they wouldn't) is all they have and that simply wont carry Scotland, they get more from England than they put in and fucking love taking the piss out of the NHS, as usual the ones lured into voting for this (much like brexit) are the ones it would cripple the most.

Yeah, pretty much. Firstly, they wouldn't be able to 'just' rejoin the EU, that would take quite a bit of time. Time that they wouldnt really have because economically they cannot stand on their own feet. The Scots like to bring up their north sea oil reserves as a means to shore up their finances for a while, but the truth is that they wouldn't have much control over those at all due to existing regulations and the way that these are exploited. They'd be bankrupt before they'd even have a chance to start meeting EU financial and regulatory standards for rejoining.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Boris Johnson pulls out early, for first time ever

Boris Johnson has pulled out of the Tory leadership contest, despite not being completely finished fucking the country. It is believed to be the first time he has pulled out early.

Sources say Johnson, who has at least seven children to three different women, took a rare moment to reflect on his life choices, had a long look at the quivering British masses and decided to do a runner before there was any further mess to clean up.
Johnson said he found the familiarity with Britain off-putting, having fucked it many times before. He is looking at alternative opportunities abroad.

A lot more to come.

Oh look, Braverman got caught sending government sensitive emails to her personal inbox. Given Truss' phone got hacked by presumably Russians, I do wonder where Braverman was sending the said emails, or who had access to her wifi.

We're looking at the longest recession in 100 years and I read results from a focus group in an ex-red wall constituency and they said the voters thought the Tories were the best party to see us through 🙄

That's because Conservatives are inherently better at 'the economy'.. So whenever a conservative government mismanages the economy, that just means an even more conservative government is needed. And when they screw it up...

Conservatives own the media and the media tell people like that what they must think.

It's sad to say it, but that's pretty much how things have been set up over the past decade.

‘Do you work in business?’: UK PM’s brutally awkward conversation with homeless man
The UK Prime Minister has gone viral for a brutally awkward conversation with a homeless man, asking whether he works “in business”.

December 26, 2022 - 2:13PM

The UK Prime Minister has gone viral for a brutally awkward conversation with a homeless man, asking whether he works “in business”.

Rishi Sunak was serving breakfast during a visit to The Passage homeless shelter in London on Friday when the exchange occurred, with critics dubbing it “excruciating”.

The man, who introduced himself as Dean, asked the PM: “Are you sorting the economy out?”

“That is exactly what I’m trying to do,” Mr Sunak responded. “Do you have a … do you work in a business?”

“No, I’m homeless,” Dean replied. “I am actually a homeless person. But I am interested in business.”

“Yeah, what kind of business?” the PM asked.

Dean said he was interested in finance because “when finance and stuff’s doing well, we do well in London”.

Mr Sunak, a former investment banker, enthusiastically explained that he used to work in finance.

“Is that something you’d like to get into?” he asked.

“Um … yeah I wouldn’t mind,” Dean replied. “Um … but I dunno – I’d like to get through Christmas first.”

The PM asked: “Yeah … what’s the plan? What are you doing this weekend?”

Dean said he was hoping to “get into some temporary accommodation so I’m not on the street”.

A clip of the exchange posted on Twitter by ITV News has been viewed more than 11.3 million times.

“Excruciating,” human rights campaigner Stefan Simanowitz commented.

“Sunak asks a homeless man in a homeless shelter whether he ‘works in business’, then proceeds to talk about the financial services industry. Utterly bizarre,” wrote Adam Bienkob from Byline Times.

“There’s out of touch and then there’s a millionaire asking a homeless man in a homeless shelter if he’s in financial services,” author James Felton wrote.

“When you’ve never met real people and understood their lives then you’re the kind of person that asks a homeless person if he ‘works in business’,” solicitor Nazir Afzal said.

“Rishi Sunak to a homeless person: ‘What’s your plan? What are you doing this weekend?’ Taking in a show, maybe?” actor Reece Dinsdale said.

“One of the richest men in Britain serves a fried breakfast to a homeless man for the cameras. He appears to ask him if he aspires to work in finance. I mean, in the same time he could have offered to change his life around,” BBC presenter Adil Ray said.

The PM said his government has pledged £2 billion ($A3.6 billion) to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping over three years.

During the same visit, Mr Sunak blasted strikers threatening Christmas holidays for millions, saying he was “sad and disappointed” at the chaos.

The PM again held firm against giving out bumper pay rises to millions of workers, saying it would be the right decision in the long term to help inflation go down.

A barrage of industrial action has been taking place across Britain as people grapple with the worst economic situation in decades.

On Friday, Border Force staff walked out, threatening people trying to get back to the UK in time for Christmas.

Previously in December, transport workers disrupted people’s festive preparations as they held a week of industrial action.

And following action by the NHS, nurses announced plans for another two days of strikes in January as talks remain deadlocked.

But Mr Sunak insisted the government had acted “fairly and reasonably” on public sector pay.

“I am really sad and I am disappointed about the disruption that is being caused to so many people’s lives, particularly at Christmas time,” the PM said during the visit.

“When it comes to the difficult question of setting public pay, the government has acted fairly and reasonably in accepting all the recommendations of the public sector pay review bodies. I would urge everybody who is travelling at the moment to just please check before you make your journey so you know what it happening.”

But he refused to rule out giving NHS staff a one-off payment as a sweetener for them to call off more disruptive action.

“Our door is always open … there are lots of things people have raised as things that might make a difference, we’d be happy to talk about all those things,” he said.

Mr Sunak said not having huge pay rises was the right thing to do “in the long term” is the ”right thing for the whole country”.

Seems like he was asking the homeless person 'do you have a business' (perhaps to follow up with 'then why aren't you sleeping there? we need to deregulate!' ('but letting homeless people sleep in all that empty office space---oh no, the horror, the horror!')) but stopped after 'have a'....
