Gutted. Enslaved is one of my all-time favourite bands and even their later work was a welcome treat, but In Times was the first album that left me unmoved and sadly that trend has now carried on with 'E'. Even after several listens there is nothing that even keeps the hope alive that the album might grow on me. It is soulless. I fear they carried on two albums too long Posted Image

Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

I've not heard 'E' yet but I agree: In Times was just... Dull... Especially after the utter monster of an album that was RITTIR.

Aw, I really like In Times. Haven't heard the new one yet, though.

I would have thought this sort of program was already used for decades by purveyors of bland, formulaic top 40 type crud, but no ...

Easy claim to make if they don't actually provide any samples of the music....

My dog can whine very similar to Mariah Carrey to the point where our neighbours cannot distinguish whether I'm playing the radio or torturing the dog. You'll just have to take my word for it. Also, I don't own a dog.

Well, at least it's good to know that metal will survive when robots decide to destroy the human race.

Yeah, was just about to post that link myself. Don't have headphones at work atm so I'll give it a listen when I get home.

Going to see Sasquatch in Philly on the 18th.

Any you metal mavens or rivet heads familiar with Deafheaven?

You guys know how hipsters are known for gentrification? Like moving in to an area of urban rot and decay and opening up a "farm to table" restaurant where the menu changes depending on what is in season? Well, seems like that trend has come to black metal. The hipsters have put their stamp on the genre. The drummer, and two guitarists in this band look they could be selling artisanal pickles and mustache shaping wax during their down time. While the singer and bassist look old school and probably are burning down churches during their down time. Saw these guy rip through a searing version of this song on Last Call the other night. Couldn't find it yet, but found this instead. Enjoy.

New Haken album out at the end of this week! Considering they are pretty much my favourite band I am quite excited by this.

Two great albums came out today.

One is called "The Quest" by a Canadian act called LEAH. She plays a great mix of Symphonic/Celtic inspired metal, with similarities to bits of Ayreon/Nightwish etc. I really like it after a couple of listens and I am going to listen again, it is perhaps a bit less "metal" than some of the others in the genre but it makes for a good listen nonetheless.

The other is the progressive metal masters, The Ocean (also sometimes known as The Ocean Collective) who have managed to follow up their stunning album "Pelagial" with what I believe will be the first part of a double album. This one is called "Phanerozoic 1: Paleozoic" and while I am only a couple of tracks in, I am enjoying it almost as much as Pelagial so far.
