Listening the Opeth's Pale Communion for the first time.

Opeth is my favorite band ever, and I don't know why the fuck I waited two years before listening to this.

I love everything this band puts out.

I used to LOVE Opeth but man, a) their music has been nothing but boring for a long time and B) Akerfeldt is a pretentious insufferable douchenozzle and keeps talking about being "the saviour of metal" and stuff while basically turning what was an exciting band into a Porcupine Tree tribute act...

Adding to the convo about mosh pits above, I generally enjoy a good mosh and could not agree more with Gorefest's comment about the adrenaline rush that's for sure, though at 24 I'm still fairly young, lets see how I feel in 10 years time. The one thing I really hate about them (and has kept me out in the past, especially if I'm not drinking, erm, rare but yeah lol) is arseholes who go in elbows up or some rubbish like that, or even worse the so-called 'hardcore dancing' nutjobs that literally punch and kick each other, or otherwise look like they're performing kung fu on invisible people - this might just be a thing in the UK, no idea if it happens in the US as well tbh! Thankfully that in particular is not really a problem at most larger gigs with well known bands (unless they are of that specific genre), and while you can get idiots who go in elbows up, or are obviously just there to throw their weight around and clearly couldn't care less about the music, at pretty much any gigyou go to, generally there is (and always has been from what I've heard from older metalheads I know) a moshpit etiquette that people stick to. Someone goes down you get them up etc.

EDIT: Also, supposed to be seeing Sabaton later this month B)

This, for me too. The last album I really liked was Blackwater Park.

Ghost Reveries for me! I really like Harlequin Forest and the Malazan theme (or at least that's how I saw it).

I don't really follow the metal scene from a gossip/personality point of view, so I can't comment on Akerfeldt's douchiness.

I can say that while their old Albums or masterpieces, I still have a soft spot for their newer stuff as well. Yeah, none of their stuff is as good as Blackwater Park, but how many albums of that caliber can you expect from a band anyway?

True, but when you have Still Life, Damnation/Deliverance, Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries, it establishes a pattern of quality. Which, in my opinion has not been kept.

Picked up tickets to see The Sword next month. Really small venue, it's gonna be nuts!

Really liked Once More Round the Sun, even though it was a different direction for them. The newest album makes me think of Crack the Skye mixed with Once More Round the Sun. Either way, really enjoying it (steambreather, ancient kingdom are probably my picks of the album) and hoping to catch them live again.

Not too many bands play in Vermont - small venues and not always huge turnouts - though I did catch both Amon Amarth and Mastodon last year. Strange as usually they'd go to Montreal, New York City, or Boston.

Bought the new Mastodon yesterday. It is a bit of a mixed bag in my opinion, but i've only listened to it a few times so far. Very reminiscent of crack the skye, which i was slightly disappointed by after the awesome Blood Mountain. But there are some potential gems on Emperor of Sand.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Never did like moshing much.

But maybe that's because I'm most into doom metal and black metal.

Here are my two metal bands, btw, Catapult the Dead, and Dustern:

Laseen did nothing wrong.

I demand Telorast & Curdle plushies.

Any Eluveitie fans here? I'm addicted to This Is The Sound by Cellar Darling, the band formed by Anna Murphy, Merlin Sutter and Ivo Henzi when they quit Eluveitie last year? Probably not metal enough for this thread, though :)

Mastodon appeared on Conan last night. I wish they would play another cut from the new album when they do these talk show appearances. Still, a real solid performance.

Big Eluveitie fan, I actually didn't know those guys had formed another band after leaving, shows how little attention I've been paying for awhile I guess.

If you like Anna's voice (and the hurdy gurdy, of course) you'll probably love this, as she's the only vocalist here. It's not as metal as Eluveitie but still rocks.
