All the components for the crib have finally been completed, been busy and lazy.
Just need to trench the posts and start putting it together

I'm probably going to go for the mineral oil or tung oil to finish.

Anyone have any experience with either?

I made a ukulele case.

I couldn't find anything online that was cute enough for my taste, so I decided to design my own.

Most of the Googling I did showed people making hardshell guitar cases out of wood. As cool as that would be, my posh, expensive girls' school insisted that there was no point offering Shop Class since they didn't think any girls would take it. Consequently, I have zero woodworking skills. This was in the 90's. (As a side note, I plan to remedy this later this year, after all the nuptial hubbub has settled. I have found a local place that offers adult classes, as well as drop-in shop time. I am pretty stoked!)

The outer is traditional Japanese cotton, gifted to me by my sis-in-law, who challenged me to make something other than a dress. The lining is polar fleece left over from a kid's Halloween costume. I was looking for a way to get rid of it. It is horrible for my complexion. Between those layers, I sandwiched plastic canvas, to give it some structure. I took leftover quilt batting and tacked it to the plastic canvas so that it would feel nice and padded on the outside. Zipper, pocket, carrying strap.

I am pretty proud of myself.

I also don't think I am every going to do this again. If I ever decide to get a new guitar case, I will just buy one and sew patches all over it, like a normal person. This was a pretty tricky make, due to all the layers and the weird curves.

Haven't finished the crib yet.

Life got busy and we're also finally clearing out over 2 households worth of furniture and crap out of our garage and shed this weekend (after nearly two years of pointlessly storing it is now all being sold of or given to charity shops anyway)
But, intend to be in the ballpark of structural completion by Sunday evening then just have to worry about a tidy up and mineral oil finish.

But, that is not why I am posting.

No no. This is asking for advice and (in a few days critiques)
Basically now that I'm finally getting my shed back (some members may recall I have a party shed with bar and pool table) I intend to convert it into a flat. For me. Now the ground space isn't massive but it's bigger than plenty of apartments I've worked on over the years I'm in London at the minute but from my head I'm saying it's about 15m*6m give or take. It has a split level with one end (about 5m) being a half a meter higher.
So I'm going to be drawing out a few sketches of proposed layouts but was wondering if anyone had weblnt self build for a house or has done renovations recently (I know we have a joiner or two on here and at least one building contractor) that has seen or used any cool space saving ideas when building or installing furniture. I'll be doing basically all the work excepting fitting the windows and plumbing myself. And like the idea of making most of the furniture myself. Not from a financial perspective (although that is a bonus) I just want to build it myself!

So. Things you've seen that looked great or struck you as great ideas?

The rocking motion isn't quite perfect and the slightly larger headboard has letting a little of center on balance.

So, a bit of sanding to get the rocking motion perfectly smooth and going to add a small strip of wood under the feet end to get a better neutral position when empty.

playing around with sketchup at work (for work) and decided to also mock up a basic layout of my planned apartment. to be built if I ever get some free fucking time.

furniture is just random stuff that sketchup had in catalogue, and book shelf will be intergrated to half way etc. this is more just for me to get a visual idea of how things will fir in to see where I can alter my spaces a bit (possibly push the kitchen longer to facilitate a bigger table and allow me to return the counter to the fridge etc)

The pool table is there because I have one and am loathe to part with it. There will be a beer cooler (see opening low down beside patio doors)

The blue jellos, one of the shower and the one in the bedroom is just a block in for where the chest of drawers will be.
