There's telescoping poles all over the online shops. The one I think fits for you is a 47 incher that goes out to 10 feet. It's not exactly bag-sized, but if you make a velcro loop on the side of the bag, it'll carry well enough and is plenty light.

Given the size of my tarp I'd be better off with one that goes to a max of 3 feet most likely. It is nowhere near the size of the tarp shown in the stock photo I attached above.

On second thought, 47 inch is probably right for a max height. I tested it with my telescoping ski poles on the weekend and they were at 140cm, which was just about perfect. Any higher and it would be too prone to blowing away. Any lower and it would be annoying to get underneath it.

That's what I used to say, but then I just got antsy, bought a good vacuum for sucking up sawdust and started building stuff in my apartment anyway.

If you just pick up the bare essential hand tools (set of screw drivers, set of chisels, a decent handsaw and battery operated drill / drillbits) you can build a lot of stuff in a confined space without pissing off the neighbours.

found poles for my tarp yesterday.

That's the nice thing about knowing the dude that works at the local outdoor recreation store. I went in mumbling some abstract crap about telescoping poles for something I built and he's like:

"well we have like 20 sets of aluminum tent poles from returned / ripped / discontinued tents downstairs. Hardly anybody asks for them, but we keep em in case somebody needs a spare part...would that do?"

WIN. Also when collapsed they fit *perfectly* into the carry bag. Karma, you were not a bitch yesterday.

Now I have enough poles to supply my own beach tarp and make a second one for my friends that are getting married next month (they go to the beach all the time). A homemade unique wedding gift should top up the karma I cashed in yesterday too, so DOUBLE WIN.

This thread needed resurrecting anyway.

have the chassis and wheels sorted now.

lifted the bed frame off altogether, took the ram out and wheels off, chipped off all the rust flakes and grinded/brushed the whole chassis down. same with the rims.
did my first ever bit of welding for a support for the hydraulic pipe. not the prettiest bit of welding but not awful, a quick polish with the grinder and some paint it looked fine.
2 coats of heavy oxide paint for the undercoat and 2/3 coats of gloss final coat for the chassis. (red)
probably the same for the wheels (white)

playing golf tomorrow morning then going to take the brackets off the old side timbers and cut new ones, and brush down the brackets and paint, then in the evening putting wheels back on, taking chassis out of workshop and putting bed in for its run.

the golf happened yesterday but hangover precluded all else.
so going to put the wheels back on now

and once the wheels went back on work, life and lazyness intervened.

My first day back at the trailer today, have reassembled completely all the ironwork and ram.
also fitted lights to the back, and have timbered the front, 90% of the floor at 70% of the sides. Waiting to get my rip saw back tomorrow to finish the wood, need to rip the last boards down to fit in, not doing that with a hand saw.
then a few touches on the paint where things need a bit of persuasion today (beat the fuck out of it with a hammer) and its done, ready for sale.
really could have had this project done in a few days had I been bothered. But enjoyed the time I did spend on it, today flew in, mostly because it was woodwork and I enjoy wood work more than metal work.

need to find more shit to fix now the summer and long days are here

Made a backlit mirror for the bathroom at the weekend.
Forgot to take pictures of the various work stages.

Basically routered out a grove about an inch by an inch for the LED strip to sit in, and planer one side down so the outside edge of the frame would be proud of the mirror itself to help the light wash forward.

Alas the only mirror anywhere near the size I wanted I could find in the town has the god awful glittery edging on it. Truly ugly, but it's only for the upstairs bathroom.

New bookshelf for room.

Once again forgot to take pictures of the process.

Made entirely from scratch, got to play about with the router again.

It's oak, and the buttresses are recessed into their back plates, because I wanted to see if I was neat enough to get it done that way.

New shelf has been loaded up, holds about 90 books.
Had my old shelf down to single stack, half a shelf empty. Then went around the house collecting my books that were lying about. Old shelf is not double stacked and nearly full again.

A dog's bed for my best friends new puppy.

Tried a lot of new stuff making this and mostly it worked it for me.

Only 2 small bits of wood in the scrap bin after.

Made from maple, lovely wood to work with, and my first try at carving something, reasonably happy with the name considering I only had a cheap set of mini wood carving chisels, have since bought a better set.
