The morning bus I take to the subway on my way to work was 45 minutes late.

I am beginning to suspect the groundhog lied to us... :)

I hate to break this to you Ment, but groundhogs are chronic liars. They just have good PR people.

My fucking government is sending a diplomatic mission to Venezuela to offer support and help to maduro, against the imperial west.

African goverments live in fear of regime change, because they are so often illegitimate, corrupt and innefectual that they always support the incumbent just as they hope one day to be supported in turn. Human rights violations, hunger etc these are just details on the canvass of democracy. Doesn't matter how tight a dicatators grip on power is or how rigged elections are they always trot out the same useless line that in democracies the only legitimate form of goverement change is from the ballot box.

My own government acknowledged that Mugabe stole elections in Zimbabwe and still act shocked and appalled that a coup took place.

My mother-in-law (who is a lovely woman) is declining faster now (she has a terminal illness) and we don't know how much longer she'll be with us. It's been 3 years since her diagnosis, but it's been very hard to watch her deteriorate. I don't think she wants to be here anymore (she can't move, and is fed tiny bits of food and thickened drinks, so she won't aspirate), can't talk, confined to wheelchair or bed ect. But it's also hard for us to accept that she's going to go. Plus there are really only two ways she will go, one of them is awful (Pneumonia), and the other is kidney failure (which would make her go in her sleep likely). Our kids are likely the only thing that will save my wife from a deep depression because she and her mother have a strong bond. I kiss her cheek every time we visit and tell her I love her. It's all I can do.

Sympathies, QT. Sounds like you're doing exactly the right thing for your loved ones already though. The only thing I can think of to add is that lack of sleep is a contributor to depression too, so if there's anything practical you can do to let your wife sleep, go for it as much as possible. Have to imagine you're both already in a perpetually tired state.

Is there not a compassionate option, so to speak?

There is in Ontario but it has to be selected by the individual, and if their treating dr isn’t a believer, as seems to be the case more often that not, they have to find a different dr who is. Which is doable, but not necessarily simple.

Girlfriends dad broke his leg while we were on a skiing trip in the mountains this week end. The ambulance couldn't get close enough, so they jogged in with blankets and stuff and called a helicopter. The helicopter arrived in five minutes with a surgeon whom took control, put him under and set the leg right there. Then he was flown to the regional hospital for immediate surgery. What was supposed to be a nice week end at the cabin with her family celebrating her birthday turned into one of the most stressfull week ends of my life. And it was several orders of magnitude worse for her.

He's fine thankfully. The surgery went well, he's in good health and spirits. I can at least feel some appreciation from knowing that my taxes are well spent. Still. Fuck.

Yeah, it's in those situations you realize how fortunate we are in the west to have those kinds of resources to draw on in an emergency.

Keith Flint of The Prodigy. Gone. Bummer. :)

I'll just put this here.

"Fortune favors the bold, though statistics favor the cautious." - Indomitable Courteous (Icy) Fist, The Palace Job - Patrick Weekes

"Well well well ... if it ain't The Invisible C**t." - Billy Butcher, The Boys

"I have strong views about not tempting providence and, as a wise man once said, the difference between luck and a wheelbarrow is, luck doesn’t work if you push it." - Colonel Orhan, Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City - KJ Parker

The drugs were probably what was keeping them alive.

I was never really into all that electro stuff but I didn't mind the Prodigy.

Say what you want, but Flint's frontman/dancer style was ... epically distinct. :)

Besides, the Prodigy always makes me think of my first girlfriend, who was madly into EDM. And very, very hot. So there's a reason to have positive thoughts of the Prodigy. :)

Why she was with me ... I don't think anyone will ever know. My theory is she was nerd-slumming.
That or the drugs she took gave her massive hallucinations for which I shall forever remain pathetically grateful.

Suicide. Man, I was into EDM at the time, so this one sucks...but to be honest, Keith wanted to be EDM's Johnny Rotten, and I think he earned that moniker. It's sad to see big stars from my youth in the 90's either taking their own lives, or succumbing to drug overdoses.

Fuck.

Luke Perry died.

I was so hoping he'd pull through after his stroke.

My wife has met a bunch of stars through her time with me and my attendance to conventions, but she maintains no one...and she does mean no one, was ever nicer, warmer, and more genuinely thrilled to be around his fans than Perry.

RIP man.
