"I think i was a bad person before. Before this time. I do not try to be good now but i am not bad. Perhaps if i try harder i may get a better hand dealt next time? But surely that makes it pointless? Perhaps i am good. Just good at being pointless. But that would make me bad. Bad at having a point. Ah…. I see now. I was nothing before, I am nothing now. I am bad purely because im pointless. "

Actually, when Fener talks to the Errant, in RG, hes describe as looking like an ogre (ya I know weird) a hunched back, balding humanoid, with tusks. So no, I'm afraid he isn't literally a boar, hes just called the Boar of Summer because his Tusks I guess (hence a Jaghu/Jagh reference)

Interesting. Maybe Fener started out as a Jhag god of warfare or combat. He was then picked up by the humans over time and association with the various jagh tribes.

I wonder what the tatoo's are about then...

Are we going to find out that Hoborics Tats were just Jaghut jibberish? Things like "mom" written inside the sign for heart and "fener was here" tatoo'ed on his forehead...

But remember when he is 'pushed' out of his realm and now walks Wu, he was pronounced as having a Boars' Hoof and Leg stretching up into the sky. In MoI I believe.

Perhaps he changed his shape to try and be less conspicuous since he is hiding?

Heboric's tats were Fener's written denial that he'd ordered Heboric's removal as high priest and the ritual by which his hands were removed was not proper (instead it was done by Surly and the Claw to reduce Fener's influence). See MoI pp. 567-8 usmmpb.

Well... spoil the poor joke why don't you.

That said, I got the impression the tats appear through the judgement, even though Fener was no longer there to recieve Rath'feners hands, the punishment served by Itkovian was just and appropriate. Tatoo's appeared on the the guy all though they were demonic in origin.

So the signs aren't linked to the rightousness of the punishment. Or does it specifically say so in the quote above?

Ah, you're referring to two different judgments: Heboric and Rath'Fener.
When Heboric's hands were severed and sent to Fener, he couldn't accept them because the ritual "must be the expression of purest justice," and this one wasn't, it was engineered by the Empire. Thus Fener announced his denial through the tats. In Rath'Fener's case, Fener had already been torn from his realm. When Itkovian severed Rath'Fener's hands:

Quote

MoI usmmpb p.534:
Dark tattoos appeared on the man's skin, but not those belonging to Fener - for the god had not been the one to claim Rath'Fener's severed hands. Writhing, alien script swarmed his flesh as the unknown claimant made its mark, claimed possession of the man's mortal soul.

The claimant isn't specifically identified, although the CG is implied -- Rath'Fener's deal was with "agents of the Pannion Seer."

Yeah but I ment that the tatoo's are a result of the ritual not whether the punishment is just or not, they just show up after the hands are cut in the ritual. The quote I was seeking was one that perhaps said that fener's tatoo's marked the injustice of the punihment, which I doubt.

I don't think the foreign god is the CG though, it doesn't sound like him. It sounds more like a god in another universe, foreign like the CG is, that somehow moved in on Feners place when it was found empty.

MoI usmmpb p.568:
He (Fener) burned the tattoos announcing his denial upon the high priest's (Heboric's) skin...

Another quote, this time from Itkovian regarding Rath'Fener's tattoos:

Quote

MoI usmmpb p.535:
Aye, Fener should have been awaiting you; our god should have accepted your severed hands, so that he might look upon you following your death, that he might voice the words prepared for you and you alone - the words on your skin.

Could be; it remains unclear. If it is the CG, however, it adds a dimension to his character, viz., "...an alien presence. Immense power. Not malign, yet profoundly... different."

It has elements of the CGs power, for example mortal flesh being unable to contain the "gift", but it seemed far too innocent to be the CG.
I cant see him caring if Itkovian tried to take his pain. It would have simply killed the SA

Is it possible that Quick Ben has an elder god in him.
He has a lot of arcane knowledge, in MoI , when Quick is facing all of the Seerdomin at the beginning of the battle of coral, He sends a wall of shadow and dirt straight down to take out the entire company. Just missing the Bridgeburners. Blend mentions at the time that it just wasn't possible for someone to do that unless they were a god. Also he unleashes 9 simultaneous illusions something that blend doesn't think is possible. In GOTM he showed total mastery of powers thought long lost. What if one of the Souls that he absorbed had earlier absorbed the Soul of the elder god Grizzin Farl?
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

I doubt it. Though he wouldn't have to be an Elder God to have Godlike powers, merely ascendant. And that's quite possible.

As for Blend's observations... she's no expert. And that was just to highlight his badassitude I reckon.

Crazy theories:

Uruth and Tomad Sengar are alive and are used by CG with Janas to disrupt Tehol's otherwise peaceful reign... (ok, just a mediocre theory)

Seran is not pregnant with Trull's child, but either from the rape (surpressed with her high mage skill in denial) or from Mockra itself.

Featherwitch was cursed and didn't really die. But is laying low to taunt the Errant a second time.

Cotillian and Shadowthorne are really members of the Ratcatchers Guild.

I’m pretty sure Tomad and Uruth are dead.... Triban gnoll doesn’t seem that careless as to let them live. but you never know...

I do like the Seran being Pregnant with the rapist's child... but I think Bugg would have caught on to that. and I’m not sure how much time passed between the rape and her boning Trull but I thought it was quit a bit.

I really hope Featherbitch stays dead.

Lol, mm King of High House shadow a member of the Rat catcher’s guild... not sure about that one...maybe he will join later... or recruit some people from the guild....I would hire them

I was wondering why Kilmandaros was in an Azath ... where is it mentioned that Rake put her there? And if he did, then he has to be seriously powerful ...

tiam;186917 said:

I doubt it. It seems to be close to Lether as Rake put KIL in an azath after she tried to stop his 'betrayal'. Therefore i dont think its that far away

i dont think it was ever stated that rake put killy in the azath house but since the last time we saw her she was with rake than its not an altogether ridiculous idea.
