Permit me to summarize the key point...

Star Trek...you don't want it to change.

It's this.

See also Star Wars, BSG, Bird of Prey, etc etc. Nothing is allowed to change. Not ever.

There were people who lost absolutely their mindshits when Warren Ellis killed off Bazooka in GI JOE: RESOLUTE. In 2009. The character was an annoying comic relief to a kids cartoon that ended in 1986, but there they were screaming DAMN YOU WARREN ELLIS YOU KILLED ALL MY CHILDHOOD I FORGAVE YOU FOR THE GODZILLA BUKKAKE BUT NOT THIS NO NEVER THIS.

It's absurd.

Absolutely - good to know I'm not the only one getting Jaime and Cersei vibes.

Agreed. You forgot the Doctor Who fanbase, who are currently very angry everywhere.

Ah yes, the WHAT DAMN YOU YOU CANNOT MAKE THE DOCTOR SERIOUS/SCOTTISH/EFFECTIVE/FUN/BI/FEMALE/BLACK NOOO MY CHILDHOOD WAAAAAAAH YAY BREXIT WAAAAAAHHHH camp.

I appreciate that tv production - and DiscoTrek and Picard are good examples of this - has started to accept that no matter what it does there will always be a loud angry voice complaining about it, and thus 'fuck that guy we're just gonna make a good show'. Movies are still trying to keep everyone and mostly China happy.

its perhaps something ridiculous to get stuck on but I have watched Star fleet doctors cure deadly plagued in hours. I have seen the doctor create holographic lungs when someone had their own lungs stolen, I have seen him revive the dead .

It’s hard to believe that over years

Medical science works to the needs of the plot sure, I guess what stands out here is that it effected a real character

I have to say, the holographic lungs thing never made any sense to me. That was simply a bit too much of a stretch for me.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Not afraid to admit it, the moment Picard, off camera, said 'Hello Will', I had tears streaming down my face. I bloody loved this episode. It felt like it wasn't just Picard reuniting with old friends but me as well, just the warmth and emotion that seemed to emanate from the screen. Even the kid didn't annoy me

It was all a dream ...

Excellent ep. Anyone who didn't enjoy that sojourn on Nepanthe (sp?) is "... cold and dead inside ..."

Nice to see how they're treating Soji's dealing with her series of sudden world-shaking revelations.

Now, if we can only find a way to bottle this stuff up, millions of adults everywhere could TOO not be annoyed by their kids.

This this this!

EASILY the best ep they did, and it was fucking EFFORTLESS. Compared to some of the more narrow, and focused eps this season, this was a full hour of "breather" and as a result felt like the most Trek-y episode yet, and not just because of its wonderful guest stars...

I had a perma-grin when Riker called out the commands to fortify the house grounds...and when Troi was openly weeping about her son I was weepy too.

Did Sirtis and Frakes age REALLY well or is it me? They both look fantastic. I know Frakes was concerned about his age and mild weight gain being in the role again...but he looked exactly like an old Riker should look, and Sirtis looks like she barely aged at all.

Also, anyone else think Captain Crandall is Q?

I'm fairly certain he is.He came up with Sohji's home planet WAY too quick to be random.

Imagine a Q who after years of antagonizing them, and developing an affection for them, and then watching them lose their only son, strands himself on Nepenthe, disguises himself as an old ship captain, and watches over them from afar.

Please can we have a Q cameo? I'd be all over that.

Agreed on Frakes and Sirtis both aging very well indeed.

I feel like a Q cameo was all but happening the minute Stewart signed onto this show. It's just a question of "when". De Lancie would be delighted to revisit the role, he loved playing Q.

But yeah, that Crandall thing isn't random to me...so I am guessing that's him.

------

after the reveal....

Picard: "Q, what are you doing here?"

Q (*somber*): "You were in no shape to look after them Jean-Luc, so I did."
