I'm still looking forward to it, but time travel as a plot driver makes me a little uneasy. It's rarely done that well - but we shall see!

Oh dear, are they trying to redo Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home?

Ohhhh, this has a few chances to go well, and way too many chances to go badly. Fingers crossed.

So let's dive in.

The scuttle seems to be this:

- The Borg Queen is here. She's captured, and torture by the humans. This means that they caught her BEFORE the Borg time jumped for FIRST CONTACT. That has ramifications, and may well be the thing that shifted them...Q likes to teach lessons and I have a feeling that he wants Picard to understand how important the events of FC actually are, even if Picard maybe regrets his behaviour and his lashing out due to PTSD of his time as Locutus...you know the scene "The line must be drawn HERE!"...

- If you pause it when Raffi is taking a swing in a sort of dump....you can see a sign that reads Sanctuary District Rules....this means that we are visiting the timeframe from DS9 Season 1 (PAST TENSE) when Sisko, Dax, and Bashir beam down to 2024 earth and Sisko has to impersonate famed revolutionary Gabriel Bell to make sure the riots happen and humanity skews back onto the peaceful timeline...so my guess is that for some reason Sisko does not accomplish this, and the timeline leads into the bad future they visit that looks "Terran" for lack of a better way of looking at it.

Also, taking First Contact (the best TNG-era Trek movie) and The Voyage Home (everyone's favourite Old Trek movie...yes, I know Khan is the BEST, but VOYAGE is the fan fave including mine, a double dumbass on you!) and mixing them up in a big bowl is damned cool.

Also figure in that both Geordie and Giunan are meant to appear in the season, so methinks that Guinan may deal with Q and Geordi can help them get back home?

Either way, this looks excitingly different from what S1 did and I'm here for it!

Yes!

Also, it seems like they are blending First Contact, with The Voyage Home, and the Bell Riots from DS9...and throwing in Q and Guinan to the mix.

I also assume that Spiner is playing a Khan Noonien Soong ancestor?

I am not complaining about any of that.

Season 3 has wrapped, and that's all she wrote for PICARD.

I never expected the series to go past a few seasons, nor did I ever expect to get a bookend series about Picard in the first place, so we were already living on borrowed time.

They've bene shooting S3, and it's done shooting, and it will be the last.

Ah, okay. So that could very well mean that they have a set plan for the show.

As far as I'm aware, they'd always planned 3 seasons only.

Caught up to date this morning. I was a bit "meh" about the idea of a time travel plot but thus far I'm very much onboard!

I wouldn't call it the most consistent series, but on balance the high points were worth the low ones and the pacing issues. John Delancey steals every scene he's in :)

Season 3 starts tonight!

I have an industry friend who was privileged to watch the first 6 eps of the season and (for reference: he thought S1 was fine, but didn't like S2 very much) he says that it's REALLY good and that it feels like the movies did and is very very much a love letter to the TNG crew.

I cannot wait.

While you wait, here is a heartwarming story from Will Wheaton about attending the S3 premiere with his wife, and how Jonathan Frakes is an incredible human being and every bit the person you wanted him to be.

Watched episode one this morning - I'm so on board. TNG is my Trek, so I was always super excited for this series.

Thanks so much for sharing that link, QT. Frakes has always struck me as an incredible servant to Star Trek and a lovely man, it's so heartwarming hearing how he treats Will.
