Imperial is weird.

I continue to use metric explicitly. Sometimes it baffles people around me, but very rarely.

Imperial is a crime against nature.

It must partly explain America's problems

After you purchase a pallet of those peanut butter and pickle Twinkies, buy a couple of cases of these. You're not a true 'murican unless you have the 'beetus real good.

Excellent. Proceed immediately to 5th Avenue Deli and consume EVERYTHING.
Then go to Times Square and take selfies with the freaks and cops and costume people.
Then kevlar.

Are you sure you were on the right flight? Sounds like you are in Spain now.

Please keep us Europeans in the loop on how you get on out there. You can be our canary.

Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Nah, he's completely right. Imperial measures are beyond idiotic. Especially when you have people (like my in-laws or my wife) who bloody use imperial for things like body weight or miles travelled, but metric for things like cooking volumes or small (cm - meter) distances. I still rue the day of ever marrying into this lunacy. Anyone defending imperial measures (or Fahrenheit temps. Seriously? Are you out of your mind? That scale doesn't even make sense if you are a spite goblin, let alone a human being. Or a cat) should be fitted with a straight-jacket and permanently hidden from view. Good thing I'm not too fanatical in my feelings about this, otherwise they'd have to lock down another forum thread.

Try the Meatball Shop, the Highline, go walk around Central Park in the day, go to the museums (keep expectations low for the Guggenheim), hang out in Eataly, and if you have the money, eat a meal at Per Se. You may enjoy the Chinatown, Little India, or Little Odessa sections. Take the trains or buses. Go to concerts, plays, and find out what you dig.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I believe there's an Umami Burger in NYC, right? Get a little bit of West Coast love on the East Coast.

Shows: go to the half-price tickets office in Times Square or i think Union station, go see anything that catches your eye or pick at random. If Blue Man Group or Stomp are around i reco them for a lower cost off Broadway fun show. Avenue Q is great but not everyone's thing. Lion King is glorious.

Try to walk the Brooklyn Bridge and/or take the Staten Island ferry, both around sunset if workable.

It's been 5yrs+ since my last trip so the rest of this may be dated...

Food: Tao. Buddakan. 5th Avenue Deli. Katz' Deli. Blue Smoke.

Drink: McSorley's. Azul. The Kimberley. Pod 39.

Cause, I live in Manhattan. Wanna meet up? How long are you here for?

@Abyss: Union Sq Station doesn't have Broadway anything. It's just a subway station that sometimes has good buskers. The Staten Island ferry is free though, so that's not a bad suggestion.

You actually can try to get tickets day-of! I know people who have done it and gotten box seats for ~$100.
