I know, but he'd know who he'd been chasing as soon as he catches up. And Leia would presumably know he'd been chasing them from the battle.

Anyhow, as I said it's not really the main metric for whether the film is good or not.

It just makes Leia really ballsy to try that line. She knows Vader won't buy it for a second but what the hell, she's got nothing to lose. Oh, and I can't recall if here or on a another board, someone was put off by Vader's one liner with Krennic. It didn't feel out of place coming from the guy who went: "I find your lack of faith disturbing" "Apology accepted, Captain Needa" while chocking people to death or that "Won't you join us" bit on Bespin.

Agreed, also anyone that knows Anakin from Clone Wars wouldn't have found it that jarring.

My only quibble with Vader's appearance was the fact he moved about a bit too much while talking.
I thought it would have been more menacing to stay still and stare at Krennic, especially during second part of the conversation. That would be pants-shittingly scary.

Yes, Vader has shown a bit of a penchant for darkly ironic comments, but "we would be honoured if you would join us" is just not comparable with the kind of pun you'd get from a Christmas cracker.

By that logic Vader shouting "Now this is Tie fighting!" would be fine writing because of the precedent set by Episode 1. It's poor writing not only because it's jarring with regards to Vader's character in the originals, but even without that context. The rest of the film (and that scene) tries to present Vader as menacing and then he drops a low effort pun that puts him on par with Mr Freeze.
