Maybe as done by Quentin Tarantino ... Kill Karsa Vol 1-3?

To be honest, I'm actually way happier with the concept of following Karsa's impact on the the Malazan world post-tCG than having to follow Karsa himself around for three books in a sort of glorified Conan the Barbarian celebration of slaughter....
C'mon. You know this was never Karsa, even back when he was introduced in HoC.
Yes, that's what SE was working from, but it took maybe three slaughters before the character moved beyond that.
...ok, fine there were a couple more slaughters, but they were ETHICAL SLAUGHTERS.

I wonder. Do you think Erikson has earned the kind of fuck you money that means he can write what he wants, when he wants, or is he still dependent on individual books release dates and reception?

As evidenced by the replacement of the final Kharkanas book(s) in lieu of the Karsa trilogy, no.

Wasn't that more a case of the publisher not wanting to fund it?

It looks like Damisk will be making a return appearance. Erikson was giving out prizes on his Facebook page for people who could remind him what happened to him in HoC.
Special thanks to the Facebook poster who recommended he check the Malazan wiki.
Quote
All right, boys and girls ... the character Damisk, assistant to Slavemaster Silgar in House of Chains: what was his fate? Second question, a single worshipper of the Forkrul Assail Stone survived the clash with Karsa and company, did I ever name him or record his/her fate? Am I being lazy? Yes, I am, but I want to keep running with the narrative and searching through back-pages is slowing me down. First Three solid responses will get a prize. God, I'm shameless.
Quote
Hi folks, thanks for all the responses to my questions re Damisk. I was pretty sure the two characters were one and the same, and also that he survived -- did he end up in the Nascent? I guess the key point is that he survived, which is what I needed. As you might have guessed, I've brought him back. If necessary, I will change his name, but for the moment I don't think I need to, nor do I want to! I need Damisk's history, if you know what I mean. This is what I tell many beginning writers: don't be afraid to leave a character not-wrapped-up, because then they're still waiting for you, like, fifteen years later...
Special thanks to the Facebook poster who recommended he check the Malazan wiki.

Erikson has sold 3.5 million books in 20 years, which is certainly good money, but it's not Pratchett/Jordan/Martin "buy three houses on the weekend because you're bored" money.
