To try and expand, our current government is probably about as far right as you can get without tipping into overt fascist territory. They fetishize the Victorian era, where the wealthy and landed were the wealthy and landed, the workers were mere ants to be directed as needed for the sake of money, where the populace were beholden to the whims of their wealthy masters and existed solely to generate extractable profit.

They are also deeply in bed with the corporations; Truss is from an oil company background, so she is effectively in their pockets. Kwarteng used to work political advisory for a company that made a lot of money betting against the pound. Mogg is absolutely the vilest turd I've smelled in a long time and the sooner there's a grassy knoll (in Minecraft) the better. The new home secretary is the one presented with overwhelming evidence that Boris was fucking around and decided to try and argue for his innocence / sweep it all away.

And of course, they are deeply in bed with right-wing media, because it's mutually beneficial for them both to remain in power - so there is no accountability, we can SEE the flagrant corruption and wrongdoing and yet nothing happens because people are so disillusioned that they refuse to vote, or to take direct action. Starmer having taken Labour back to the right, along with his campaign to purge any socialist elements within the party (including a number of Jewish members, funnily enough) has absolutely alienated the surge of younger members that Corbyn brought, so for a lot of people there is no palatable alternative to the Tories, which again only benefits THEM, because the status quo being maintained and slowly altered to suit them is what they want.

Throw sideways, add spin to the end of the throw. That's what our friends in Eire have been teaching us. In Minecraft, of course.

You ain't wrong. Every nation-state a labor colony serving billionaires. It's a simple, well trodden path to get there: Attack foreigners & internal minorities; Attack unions; Attack wage raises (you know, cuz they cause inflation lol). Then attack anyone who tries to counter the first three (initially as unrealistic/idealists, but you'll have to turn up and expand the demonizing proportionally as conditions worsen -- but that's fine, there's plenty of ambient anger by now for the nationalists to exploit).

What I find interesting about Truss & Kwarteng is that they actually seem to believe the idea that supply-side (aka trickle down) economics really works. I'm pretty sure that Reagan & Thatcher didn't actually believe in it; for them it was more a useful excuse to use while they went upon their ideological crusades to dismantle the machinery of government and give tax breaks to the wealthy and to corporations. Truss & Kwarteng, given their ages, seem to have grown up with, and internalised, this particular Big Lie and, more importantly, never spotted that it had never worked like that. I would guess their "logic" was that if they pressed the magic button things would go their way and everyone would regard them as heroes. Cue their surprised Pikachu faces (presumably) when the markets, the BoE, the IMF, and even the Americans, as one, all said "Nah, bro!"
And now they've got to dig their way out of an existential hole, because the world literally does not work in the way their heroes told them it did. Currently they seem to be in the Denial Phase, though. I guess they still believe that supply-side economics cannot fail, it can only be failed.

This is also a huge problem and a massive part of why the British public are conditioned to blindly accept what whoever is in power tells them.

Our education system paints us as a great, heroic nation, the empire was a time of great enlightenment for the colonies, we brought stability, education and greatness to them, etc etc. There's a massive culture of the UK being a country that the rest of the world owes a debt of gratitude for, and that we are STILL a world-controlling superpower, and that effectively when we say 'jump', the foreigns must ask 'how high?'.

The younger generations (mine and below) are thankfully beginning to realise that enough is enough, because our lot is permanently living with parents, very few ever being able to own homes, predatory employment with incredibly low wages and a future which is bleak at best and utterly hopeless at worst.

Depending on who you believe, the Americans are the ones prompting most of this, on the promise of the opportunity to scoop up privatized health, power, and other services. Further down the rabbit hole, and Truss and co are operating on the promise of profitable executive or consultant jobs, and Russia or Chinese money is behind the entire thing.

It's fascinating to watch from here because the UK is a bit closer than to the Canadian model than the US in some ways. We're watching our two closest allies implode and it is disturbing as all fnck for many reasons, including our own vulnerability to the same path.

What fucking scene is it where Nadine fucking Dorries says one semi sensible thing. We do need a general election, Truss doesn't have a mandate. Remember when Brown took over from Blair and the Tories were banging on about a GE? That.

But yes do not take my words as anything beyond bewildered surprise, Dorries makes Truss seem semi cogent at least half of the time.
