I know she wasn’t elected but rather chosen by party officials but I have watched LIz Truss speak, how on earth was she chosen. Whatever the opposite of charisma is she has it.

Was she chosen to fail, or as a placeholder until the next real election? Although I understand her popularity is bad she is killing the party.

I'm this context I would suggest it's a case of "YOU'RE still in charge?? This isn't good for anybody!" Most likely coupled with an exasperated line of "what kind of moronic backwards country have I just become the head of state for where this cretin can be the PM" and with just a touch of "and now I have to suffer your company once again..."

I'm utterly baffled by the UK system. I don't understand why having a meeting with a figurehead king or queen would ever be anything that has people walking on eggshells or so transfixed. From an outside observation though, the few times I've watched Liz Truss give a speech, she goes above and beyond the phrases "out of her depth" / "over her skis."

Apart from the first time a new prime minister used to have to go and see the queen, the weekly meeting between prime minister and monarch was never news. It is slightly interesting now because it's Charles but it got raised in profile when Boris Johnson had to see the queen after his illegal prorogation of parliament and parties before Prince Phillip's funeral. It went under the radar the previously.

That's not to say our constitutional setup is not batshit insane. It is but it wasn't shoved in our face until recent years with the ridiculousness foisted upon us by idiot tories.

I'm avoiding the news. It's too depressing and I refuse to be forced to engage with a crisis caused by a tory party in a death spiral. I have this feeling of dread that no matter how low they sink, they will somehow cling to power. Or by the time they lose an election the country will be in such dire straits there will be no way back anyway.
