It's just farcical. If it wasn't so serious it would be hilarious. The one thing that makes me have the tiniest bit of hope is that she's just about stupid, incompetent and desperate enough that she might actually call a GE. And that would be very bad for the Tories.

Not that Keir Starmer is much better.

Surely we have to be reaching a stage where a snap election is actually required with the turnover of staff in the cabinet?

Give them time.
It took years before anyone could laugh at Thatcher.

You wouldn't read about it ... strangely prophetic:

Maybe the book could be repackaged as a cautionary tale/object lesson. I wonder how long it will be before someone draws the Icarus parallel.

ALSO ... your Freudian slip is showing:

For our British compatriots, a question; Is there some reason, other than a Tory effort to retain power, that an election for parliament isn't called?

Because if they do now they'll be obliterated politically. If they hold on there's a chance they can mitigate the damage. A tiny chance but a chance none the less.

Nope that's pretty much it. They know if they called a GE now they'd most likely lose quite badly and that's more important than almost anything. So we'll get another turd dressed to look like a jewel. And they'll be even worse somehow.

Rumour is that Bellend Johnson might go for it again. And what's astonishing is that many would welcome his return.
