I was thinking they would start season 2 with a 3 weeks/months later kinda thing and just have the group come back to shore.

Just marathoned the show. So much better than TWD that it's not even funny. There was a moment (the end of ep 2) where I thought we would dive into TWD-style stupid because neither of the adult protags were explaining anything to anyone...the signature move of terrible writing. But ep3 and beyond made it clear that the show wasn't stalling, and the situation was going to be forced into the characters' lives. Chris is annoying, but they didn't go too overboard with it. The show kind of avoided a lot of monster movie cliches, actually, like punishing characters' weaker decisions whenever possible. Showed a surprising amount of restraint. Strand is the most TWD-ish character and is therefore goofy as hell, but at least in the finale he didn't turn out to be mr. perfect (well, for at least some of his screen time). That guy would probably make a great lead in an Anansi Boys adaptation though. I thought it was a surprising, and pretty bold move for a mainstream show to make the US military the villains. There was some diversity of opinion among them, but the abandonment of the populace wasn't a rogue issue so much as widespread protocol. Anyway, hope this team eventually runs into Rick and co and kills them all.

If fear is going to go this slow they need to put all 15 episodes back to back. No breaks

I love this pace. Very happy with this episode. People actually talking to each other about what's going on, rather than long monologues and pseudo-philosophy. The absence of anyone even remotely Hershel-like is such a blessing.
Also a montage set to a Songs:Ohia song...such a nice surprise!

Watched episode 2, pretty interesting. So, is Strand like an Umbrella CEO or something?

This show's got a real hard-on for the 28 Days Later GY!BE song. The score is constantly evoking it. I liked a lot of what happened this episode but it did stumble into some real TWD stand-there-bonking-zombies-on-the-head-while-you-get-swarmed territory on the beach, and then that completely inopportune, lengthy, unhelpful hug between brother and sister while everyone else is trying to shove the raft.

Caught up in time to watch tonight's. I will say I agree that the mid-season finale was a dud and totally contrived. The things I can accept: Chris being a psycho and his dad trying to pull him back, and Nick being easily influenced by a seeming silver lining point of view. The two things I can't accept: Kim Dickens becoming a murderer (uh, I get the mama bear metaphor, but she's not an ACTUAL bear) and Ruben Blades going out like a sucker. WTH? The destruction of the safe haven after two episodes and the splitting of the group -- that was as close as this show has gotten to TWD-level nonsense, but we're stuck with it, and it was bound to happen one way or another.
Anyway, as for tonight's episode, I liked it a lot. Nice mood to the whole thing, solid focus, some really cool zombie moments, and a pretty sweet view of the desert. I can vouch for how easy it is to walk into a cactus even when you see it right there in front of you.

Kudos to the show for using "How Low" by José González.

Episode 1 was ok, I really didn't like episode 2. So much stupid. They should just do a cast wipe and start with other people.

Finally finished the recent season, wanted to get it behind me before The Walking Dead season 7 airs Sunday.
To summarize what I feel about the this season: Fear the Walking Dead . . . more like Fear the Walking Dumb.

I'm guessing you guys dropped this show? Because no comments about what transpired at the beginning of episode 2. FTWD has finally gotten the cojones to go where TWD butters its bread at times.
Not sure if I will stay with this show, but I just wanted to see how they would kick of season 3 and was surprised at 1) both episodes were actually pretty good and 2) that they finally went there.

I just got around to watching the 2 hour season premiere. Very interesting choices, looking forward to seeing episode 3.

Episode 4 delivered as well. Minor annoyance with one bit, but overall this season of Fear is better than TWD.
