Anyone leaning closer to Nightmare than Mephisto now? I dunno, there's a whole manipulation of the mind thing rather than deal-with-the-devil vibe going on here. Not that they're not both capable of either. Or that I wouldn't be most happy with both (not for this single show, but over the course of Phase 4 -- a medium bad and a big bad).

Also, if the actor Paul Bettany wanted to perform with his whole life turns out to be...Paul Bettany...lol but also grrrr?

So that last thing...she's got powers before any experiments, which doesn't necessarily make her a mutant since clearly witches and magic exist here, but I think it's pretty sure now that her powers recombining DNA is going to be tied to MCU mutants. Even MCU's Pietro might have been one, if Wanda 'created' his powers as just a kid trying to protect her brother, as an isolated first case...but post-WandaVision and Multiverse, mutants are gonna be a major thing, and Wanda messing with DNA is maybe the epicenter?

Haven't watched WandaVision yet because I'm going to binge the episodes when when they are all released, but I saw an article that indicates the show has kinda been shitting the bed as the last couple of episodes wrap up the first season. Is that your guys' impression? I'll probably still watch it, but my excitement has dropped a bit.

Also, as a public service announcement, I guess the season 1 finale has two end credit scenes, so make sure you stay tuned until the film roll does that thing where it makes a flapping noise because it spooled all the way up. Is that still a thing?

Well that was a WILDLY disappointing finale.

NONE of the previously correct leakers who nailed the previous eps were right, and NOTHING they speculated came true.

So this is me eating crow at how wrong I was. Sorry Drek.

Like it was a good episode, but everything we assumed about what was going on was what was going on...so like the finale just walked through those Plotlines to their inevitable end. No surprises whatsoever.

I can see how you might be really disappointed if you were invested (rather than just, say, piqued) by all the speculation. Without spoiling anything specific, a lot of 'easter eggs' turned out to be just that -- easter eggs. Not hints, not puzzles, and not setups with cool fan service payoffs for those paying close attention -- at least not within the scope of the one series.
I was somewhere in the middle, so I felt a little disappointment but with more of an "ah well it was still mostly cool" final feeling. Some of the dialogue in the last few eps was very explain-the-subtext-out-loud, though, which was grating.

It wasn’t just my expectations about leaks and stuff, the episode basically followed the existing plot lines to their inevitable ends. Which made it kinda boring. Jimmy, Darcy, and Monica all just sort of dropped off the story till the very end. Even Hayward just kind of followed his “military bad guy for no reason” to the end. Like it was all just wrapping up stuff we knew. Hell even the runes was telegraphed by the “previously on wandavision” at the beginning...it’s like the biggest quasi-surprise in the ep and I guessed it right when they chose to focus on it in the recap.

Just blah.

Like even if I wasn’t expecting leaks stuff...I would still be massively underwhelmed by it as a finale for the first mCU tv show.

They just kind of threw the budget at special effects for two superhero fights...that’s literally it.

Still looking fwd to TFATWS though in two weeks.

Can't argue with that, QT, but it's not unusual for me to be less plot-centered and more theme-centered than the average bear, so the bluntness of explaining the subtext stuff bothers me waaaay more than the (admittedly unexpected) narrow scope of the plot and character arcs. Not to say I'm all of one and none of the other, or vice versa for you. Like you, I was hoping for a bit more integration into the wider world of Marvel properties we're yet to see, and that would have been both excitingly plot- and theme-building.

The biggest letdowns/red herrings: Aside from the lack of a big bad in general, Ralph just being Ralph Bohner (though Ralph Bohner himself was great). Dottie was just another resident. The informant was also a no show. Obviously the super scientist was a no show. And no clear introduction of mutants (though again I do think the DNA stuff, the flashback to childhood, and Rambeau all probably lead there).

Kinda funny: How underutilized Debra Jo Rupp was after the first episode, and still getting near top billing.

Stuff I was quite happy with: Vision on Vision action. Wanda (oh now I get it, like magic wand-a) getting the best of Agnes. Ralph Bohner being into Steven Seagal. And thematically, I still thought Wanda's grief held a lot of weight, her grip over the townspeople awful and scary, and her dealing with her demons (in Elizabeth Olsen's ever-capable hands) quite affecting.

That said, the consequences of her actions -- that's exactly the kind of stuff Civil War is about right, but with that plot already exhausted, what's going to come of what Wanda did to a town's worth of people? Nothing? I know the Sokovia Accords are still a thing, and Woo even mentions them, but is MCU really gonna keep dipping in that well for a whole nother Phase? And if she's a fated being rather than a mutant, it doesn't even lead to like a reboot of the Mutant Registration Act stuff. At least as of the end of this show, she got off light.

yeah, those are good points. I am still holding onto Ralph Boehner being the “witness” Jimmy was looking into when he initially arrived. In which case he could still be Fox-verse Peter and just chose the name Boner...which...is on character. LOL also the Steven Segall reference is on point for a universe shifted QS since the last period of time we saw him in in the Fox-verse was the 90’s when Segall was still popular.

I also LOVED the Vision and Vision fight and then convo where Vision philosophied Vision into stopping and leaving. The pump of memories was obviously so Vision can return.

And Wandas outfit was note perfect.

And I’m glad Agatha has a door to return.

I don't understand why people want to get the leaks and advance info or any of that. Unless it's a review saying this is utter utter dogshit, avoid, I prefer going in knowing next to nothing.

Similar to "trailers" for movies. The art of the trailer is dead, they are now basically a synopsis with highlight reel

Normally I would not have bothered, but WV didn’t really interest me when I heard about it or saw the trailers, so I went in trying to find out what I could find out to interest myself in it enough to watch since it was going to be the first phase 4 MCU material.

Like I won’t look up any spoilers or leaks for Falcon and the winter solider or Loki....but that’s because I was looking fwd to them, so I know I’m going to watch.

That I ended up enjoying WV for the most part was surprising to me since I was so meh about it before it came out.

Lesson learned I guess.
