That was pretty awful aces, oh wait no it wasn't and y'know why? ...because i can just go reread COLD DAYS ch1 and 2 to cleanse the thinkymeatz.

And so can you.

Where exactly can you read Chapter 2? All I'm seeing is a link to Chapter 1, and no link to Chapter 2, even though it says that Chapter 2 would come out on November 6 and it's currently November 8.

No.

I get what you're saying, really i do. I used to feel the same way. And for some books that might be the case, but not the dresdencrack.
When i read the promo for Cold Days it was like a whole new world of dresdencrack opened up to me.
A glorious, happy world.
A world where you read and reread a small part of the book before you have the book.
And Coco... Coco and all of you, believe me when i say this because when have i ever lied to you (except for all those times that i lied to you)...
It is better.
It is SO MUCH better.

And if you continue as you are, you will never know if i and everyone else on the pre-read side of the fence were right.
There will be more dresdencrack after this, but your opportunity is now.
And if you don't seize it and click on http://www.jim-butch.../cold-days-ch-1 and treat yourself, you will always wonder if we were right.
no matter how good the rush is when that book is finally in your twitchy little hands, the whole time you're reading those first 14 pages you'll be wondering if, good as they are, they could not have been
so much so much better. And you'll regret that. Maybe not that day, maybe not the next, but soon, and for the rest of your life.

Actually, reading the chapters to experience an enhanced level of pleasure when you get the whole thing is probably the evidence-based way to go:

"Drug sensitization occurs in drug addiction, and is defined as an increased effect of drug following repeated doses (the opposite of drug tolerance). Addiction may also be related to increased (sensitized) drug craving when environmental stimuli associated with drug taking, or drug cues, are encountered. This process may contribute to the risk for relapse in addicts attempting to quit.[6] Such sensitization involves changes in brain mesolimbic dopamine transmission, as well as a molecule inside mesolimbic neurons called delta FosB."

So the mechanism might feed addiction, but it's a bit late to think of that, isn't it?

I was browsing some of the blogs and came across this post:

See the second pic. And here's the kicker:

Yep, that is the next Dresden Files, Cold Days, sitting at the top. Given the problems I had with Ghost Story I'm not rushing to this as quickly as I would have in the past, but I will probably read it over my upcoming Thanksgiving break.

He should give it to one of us imo.

I'm curious to know what problems this person had with Ghost Story. That was a total series reset after the volatility of Changes and I believe it's the best technically written Dresden so far.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

5!

Addiction is a curious thing. Most of the research I've read agrees that over-exposure leads to desensitisation, not over-sensitisation, so long as intake is maintained. Thus, if one were to go 'cold-turkey' on Dresden, the next hit would be amplified. But continual exposure, such as, for example, excessively reading and promoting tiny samples of a forthcoming big hit, would mean that the actual effect of that hit would be reduced compared to having taken it 'cold'.

It's entirely possible that re-reads serve to inculcate the same effect, to wit, reducing the actual impact of the next major hit. It's possible that, to get the biggest possible hit from your next Dresden fix, you should actually read _no Dresden_ for at least a month beforehand. And possibly, read nothing at all. That, however, might be a sacrifice too far.
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

One thing with new books you actually get something new with most addictions you just get more of the same hence getting peeks might actually get you more hyped about what is coming as you've already begun analysing/theorising/etc

I've seen quite a few people on various sites (not this one) who were unhappy with Ghost Story. But I don't recall seeing any specific reasons why. I would guess either because it's such a departure from the rest of the series, or that some people expected the series to keep getting more crazy with every book.

I also thought Ghost Story was probably the best written one.

As far as I recall, while Ghost Story was a return to strength from Changes which I did not like, the latest book also left me a little cold. It felt too safe and it didn't really do much in terms of setting up the future books. It was a in between book that wrapped up loose ends but didn't do much else. The fact that I have trouble recalling what my issue with the book was is probably telling.

I am certainly hoping that this next book kicks things into gear and starts us on the path of the Apocalypse.

I found Ghost Story to be a bit of a slower read than the other Dresden Files books, but I also think that was kind of necessary after Changes. I see it as the beginning of a new start for Harry and I also think know that COLD DAYS will be beyond awesome  Partly because CHAPTER 3 was all kinds of awesome: http://www.jim-butch...-days-chapter-3

Ghost Story rubbed me the wrong way. I thought it was pretty awesome to start with, but it irritated me when almost everything from the blurb eventually turned out to be false: "Oh, I'm not actually a ghost; oh look, I can actually use my magic if I try hard enough," Molly's craziness might have just been an act, etc. (I don't remember many of the details.) It seemed like after starting out as such a daring departure from the rest of the series, it too quickly reverted back to the status quo (new boss notwithstanding.)
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"
―Gene Wolfe, The Citadel of the Autarch
