EDIT- Okay a quorum is 61 out of 120 lawmakers. It was 55 republicans and 9 democrats. I dont know the rules but I believe the smart move would have been for 4 democrats to high tail it out of the room as fast as possible, rather than have their objections on the record. I think such a tactic has been used in my country before but as I said I dont know the specific rules.

Many are. The leadership that loves those big campaign donations from big corps aren't (aka Pelosi).

There is an impeachement proceeding right now, and frankly the Democrats don't need it to succeed, because everyone knows it'll fail in the Senate, but they do need to push it as it will get people out to vote against such a corrupt government, because it makes it look like Democrats are trying to do the right thing, instead of just wringing their hands and sighing dramatically.

I'd also argue that whether or not they think. It'll pass, or if it will strengthen or weaken Trump's position, it has to be done out of principle. If they don't at least do the motions now, how can they do them ever again?

Right, they are telling their voters 'we'll fight for what is right, even if this won't work, we will still do it. We're willing to take a stand'. Which has been a problem with the Democrats, especially the corporate dems, for a while now.
