So trump looks like a fool for flying to Vietnaam to negotiate with N Korea only to realise it was all a big joke and to leave abruptly when the two sides were too far apart right? I mean everyone knew and told him this?

Seems to not being covered much

Let's not kid ourselves, Trump left so he would not have to face the scrutiny of Cohen's testimony with what he THOUGHT would be another photo/TV op, only for that to blow up in his face too.

Its harsh that I agree with Nico? Or that its a felony for animal abuse?

The bill would criminalize "crushing, burning, drowning, suffocating, or impaling animals"

No it's a bit harsh that Prim thought that agreeing with Nico should be a felony. I was being silly :)

Got to say I always find this kind of point a bit odd when society at large is fine with industrialised meat production. Not to say that animal abuse isn't awful but the double standard is pretty striking.

I'd say only obvious and heinous forms of abuse to animals shouls be a felony, the crushing, joking, burning, torture etc listed Above. I'm not a fan of people who may leave their animal chained in the backyard all day but I don't think it's Necessarily criminal. Starving an animal from neglect is.

We of course have and depend on a huge meat industry and I accept that. Some suffering is perhaps unavoidable. That said it should be kept to a minimum where possible. I don't need every chicken to be free range or every cow to be grass fed but I think people who buy dogs only to torture them should be punished, prevented from being around other animals and watched. Such people are. Clearly deranged.

Dog fighting rings are unnecessary. Bet on something Else. Boxing maybe. Skinning animals alive for their fur to save time is insane! Im not against fur per se but for the love of God make sure the animal. Is actually dead first. How long does it take.

It would be a double standard if the people who were pro-animal (for lack of a better term) were working in the meat industry. Most of us don't, we just ignore what's happening just like we ignore sweatshops and oil tankers and whaling ships.

I think it's a culture thing. Respectively we think of animals as pets, servants, ressources, tools and livelihoods. All depending on where in the world you're from and how you grow up.

But if you've ever owned a pet you've loved and step back a second and extrapolate your opinions of that animal. You'll realize it's insane what we do to other living creatures who are capable of feeling love, fear, loneliness, sorrow, pain, etc. Most people would never treat their dog or cat the way we treat wildlife or farm animals.

Cognitively are animals like Human beings? Of course not, they're simpler than us. But that's why I make the child abuse comparison. Animals are like small children. Their needs and lives are just as basic but no less worthy if you have any respect for life.

One day we'll switch to insects and lab meat as a protein ressource and we'll think of the meat industry as depravity.

Hmmm ... I can find a few animal rights-related threads

https://forum.malaza...__1#entry783789

https://forum.malaza...__1#entry634027

https://forum.malaza...__1#entry301974

but not an overall one. Maybe posts #9206 and onward could be put into a general "Animal Rights" thread?

But I agree with Apt on this:

"One day we'll switch to insects and lab meat as a protein ressource and we'll think of the meat industry as depravity."
As long as the fake stuff tastes the same and gives me just as much nutrients if not better, and is less resource-intensive to produce - sure.
Hell, one day people won't even know what 'real' meat tastes like and probably either won't care, or it won't even cross their minds.

Cue new fad that pushes the 'ancestor diet', to eat like we did ... :)

We had a booth at work that offered free samples of various kinds of insect food for a day.

Some of it was disguised as toppings or ground up like beef. Other stuff was just worms, caterpillars and grasshoppers prepared in different ways, fried, glazed, salted, etc.

I tried all of it. Tasted fine enough but the grasshoppers were upsettingly juicy to bite down on. No raw insects for me please.

Edit:this is of course all relevant to US politics because after WW3 we'll be scrounging for food.

I had several insect dishes in cambodia. Some were nasty, but most quite tasty. The spicy ant springrolls, and the honey and chili glazed grasshoppers were great. Couldn't quite bring myself to eat the deep fried tarantula on a stick.
