Powerslave was released 35 years ago.

Maybe it's just my mood but 30 minutes in this new Tool album is friggin boring so far.
Edit: After listening to it all, Invincible is mostly pretty good and the latter half of 7empest is good.

I guess like with all tool records, allow it to ripen with time. 'Culling voices' is massively growing on me, I love 'Pneuma' and 'Invincible', and I also really dig 'Fear Inoculum'. '7empest' has a nice old-school Tool vibe to it. 'Descending' is the only track so far that I'm a bit on the fence on. I guess it also depends which Tool albums resonate most with you. I must confess that Aenima is still my favourite go-to album, and Fear Inoculum definitely isn't that. But it is a further evolution on Lateralus and - to a lesser extent - 10,000 Days, so it seems a logical progression for the band.
My main personal gripe/disappointment is that really this album is 'more Tool', which seems like an odd criticism (who wouldn't want more Tool?), but what I mean is that my expectations after 13 years of waiting had been heightened so much that I was almost hoping for/expecting some sort of mind-blowing next level progressive shit. I don't think this album is that. It is just Tool doing Tool, but very well honed and crafted. After a dozen listens or so, the album for me ranks somewhere on par with or above Lateralus. Aenima and Undertow will still remain my favourite Tool albums, but then again those were formative albums for my music taste so there is a lot of emotional baggage attached to those records for me.

Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

I dunno if any of you will have heard of them but nearly 15 years ago a band called Disillusion, from Leipzig in Germany, released an album called BACK TO TIMES OF SPLENDOR and quite frankly it remains one of the best prog metal albums ever. Their follow up a couple of years later, GLORIA, was a vast departure from the previous style but still good.
Then they went silent.
A few years back they suddenly announced a 10 year anniversary show for BACK TO TIMES OF SPLENDOR in Vienna and yours truly managed to get out there to see them and it was sublime. Had a lovely time with it very own Dag as well but that's by the by...
Then they released a 10 minute long single called ALEA that harkened back to their earlier sounds. It was pretty ace. Their social media presence was quite regular and it was exciting for those of us who'd been fans for years.
Anyway their new album THE LIBERATION came out today and I am hype.

I love the new Tool album. I've been squeezing listening time in all weekend. This week at work is light on meetings, so I'll have time for a few more plays.

I hadn't heard of these guys until last week. The debut EP and first album are both brilliant. I've been listening to their cover version of Ultra Sheriff's 'Leviathan' all morning

So, the first The Hu album, "The Gereg", has just been released. I gave it one listen so far, but after seeing them live, I knew I would love it and, well, I do

Bit annoyed with myself. Didn't realise the new Fleshgod Apocalypse album came out already... In May... 🙄
Ah well, lots to listen to at least. It's good!

Yesterday saw new albums from both progressive weirdos LEPROUS and Cthulu/Lovecraft inspired atmospheric black metal band THE GREAT OLD ONES. Good day for music!

I'm getting old, but back in the day I saw Tool, Ozzy, Type O Negative, Linkin Park, Manson twice(once in Charlotte and again in Winston-salem, NC which is the best concert ever, imo. Monster Magnet opened for them), RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE(3 times, and second best live performance I ever seen), Pantera, Alice in Chains(most under rated band on my list), Korn, Snoop Dogg(Not Metal but was at the Korn concert) Wu Tang Clan(also not metal but opened for RATM once), and probably more that I did enough drugs while at that I no longer remember being there.

Saw Opeth at the London Palladium last night. They were brilliant as always. Interesting venue for a metal gig (I know they've played there before but I missed that one) but the atmosphere was loud and the sound was good. Mikael was on great form. Not sure about the cowboy hat, though
