Most certainly you should be! NaNo isn't about how much you can beat the 50k by - it's all about being encouraged to put pen to paper, and as long as you make the 50k (which you're on target to do), it doesn't matter if someone else does a double NaNo or even reaches a million words. :)

Or carpal-tunneled wrists to keyboard :p

I'm just surprised at how on-schedule I've been so far. I've written at least the required 1667 words each day, sometimes more. I kinda took part on a whim, but never expected myself to actually be able to complete it, and I think I just might, which will be awesome considering this is my first time. But ya, quite a confidence boost and a huge learning experience this NaNoWriMo thing is so far. It's amazing.

tell me about it, i've hit 15k today, and i'm very happy to be producing consistently. so glad i decided to go in this year.

Shit, someone from another online forum I post in has reached the 50k-mark today.
Dear god.

holy bejesus! does this person have no job?? no school? that's madness! are their eyes bleeding from staring at a computer screen for ten-hour periods??

what i'm trying to say is

Whoa indeed.
I looked at the person's profile and she says she's a year-round writer. Her daily word count for NaNo was apparently among her lowest in a year. Whoa.

Me too! I'm happy I got to try out this year. A nice challenge, and it's encouraging me to go beyond my usual 5k word limit per story. :p

I've fallen a bit behind on my personal goals over the last few days. I'll catch up tonight and try and get ahead this week.
Glad to see everyone is enjoying themselves. Hope it continues.

Anyway back to the writing!

Just checking in... glad to see most everyone doing well.

I'm going to finish applying to colleges tonight, and start on scholarships tomorrow/the rest of this week. HOPEFULLY once I finish there, I'll be able to catch up on my writing.

I had to stop. I was having trouble fitting in school life, studying for next weeks exams and NaNoWriMo, and hardly got any sleep. My marks were dropping more an more for every test, and eventually I wasn't even writing or speaking coherently (seriously). So I've stopped at 13k words. Good luck to the rest of you!

well, the plot is still going strong, but i've barely had two seconds to sit down in the last two days, so when i get home from work tonight i'll be logging some catch-up hours, to get back to the pace i was at.

Ich auch, I'm away the entire weekend from 7am Saturday morning until 9pm Sunday night! Will have to write like a demon to catch up!

I'm almost at 20K words but I'm not sure I'll be able to finish the 50K either, as I haven't been writing on weekends. Ah well, I'll see how close I can get and who knows, I might surprise myself! :p

@Wade: Sorry to lose you. But you're right to prioritize school, and a brave soul for having tried while still having classes.

@Maia: Stick to it. You may not think you'll make it but you just might. Besides the Night of Writing Dangerously/Marathon Write-in (Grande Orgie de Mots) is coming up this Saturday. Check your regional forum to see if they've got anything going. It's apparently a great way to catch up since you're going up against other nutjobs participating, many of which will be catching up and others going for the 70 000 marker (the show-offs).

Plot wise nothing much as changed in mine. I'm still lacking a Climax of some kind. Which is problematic... Unless I go for 50 000 with unfinished story.
Two scenes are still completely unattached and random and have no PoV characters.

Must needs to get some writing done now.

I wish you all continuing luck.

@Wade-newb: That's sad to hear, but school is more important.
@everyone: how are your novels going? Any one of you willing to post your synopsis here?

I'm at 38k and damn this is the longest story I've ever written. I should be able to reach 50k at the end of the week, since I'm just staying at home, jobless.

I just realized that none of my characters have any friends.
Two have parents that appear in the story.
None have friends, that may change with my three pilgrims. Who knows.

Right, so, I've been heavily sidetracked by Skyrim. Like, haven't written anything since last weekend. I think that also has something to do with a bit of burnout from the spree I went on back then, thus explaining the time between not writing anything and Skyrim becoming my new excuse.

HOWEVER. Today while waiting for my car to be serviced, I went into a bookstore. Cue epic guilt spasm of "OH MERCIFUL GOD, I TOTALLY HAVEN'T WRITTEN ANYTHING FOR NANO FOR A WEEK AND A HALF." So now I think I might be motivated to continue writing, which is great, seeing as half the month is gone already. :) BACK TO WORK! :)

The Night of Writing Dangerously has begun on my end. I might only get about an hour and a half in before I head off to DM a Pathfinder game.

Hope others are participating.

Well, I always figured this would be the case, but it's nice to know I was right. No way in hell my novel is going to be considered 'finished' at 50k words. I haven't done much since my newfound resolution, but at the end of writing today (should be sometime around 2am tomorrow, actually, but whatever) I'm going to be at the 50k mark, and I'd say...oh, maybe a quarter-to-a-third of the plot mark? I'm also unofficially shelving Project Two for the duration of NaNo simply because I can feel the stories cross-contaminating each other with ideas, and that's not great in this case. I've only managed like 5k words on that anyway, but even so.

Alright, time to turn the music up and hit the ground running. The final ten days...and here. We. Go! :)
