just curious, is the Mazrim Taim/Demandred issue/controversy cleared up in the latest books?

Demandred's alter ego hasn't yet been revealed, but we know it's not Taim; RJ said so several times in interviews. If you're interested, go here and check out the taimandred tag.

also that "who killed Asmodean?" stuff also been cleared?

That is cleared up in TOM. If you are curious and would rather know now...

Spoiler

I'm doing a reread right now, and I'm on Winter's Heart. When I first started reading the series, WH was not yet out in paperback.

well, if it isn't Taim, it has to be someone in high places, someone with authority, w/ an EGO that big, idk if he could stomach being just a lackey like Dashiva/Osan'gar,

After reading the beginning of The Gathering Storm I think Demandred is the King of Murandy. Roedran.

My favorite is Ishamael/Moridin. Second favorite is Demandred, but perhaps that's only because he hasn't been on screen often enough to reveal many of his weaknesses.

I made an argument for that here. Lots of noobs believed that before I wrote that up, but almost no old-timers believed it. I go into what finally convinced me of it on that page. It's kind of long—sorry about that—but the most fun bit of evidence IMO is the pipe. Just the timing of the clues makes it fishy. In KOD we learn that Finder weaves will hold forever on metal, and Talmanes' pipe is gold-rimmed, and Min had a viewing of a smoking pipe and two dead men surrounded by ranks of Trollocs. There's another clue I need to add to that page that I just noticed in my reread; Sammael was publicly planning to attack Illian in TDR, but secretly planning to attack Murandy.

All that just backs up the case. It makes sense he is Roedran.

I didn't catch Talmanes' pipe or notice Min's viewing. It makes me sad to think he'll die!

yah, just read it, browsed it yesterday, but didn't read the whole, sorry, so it seems Terez has narrowed it down a little further, and it also makes you kind of curious as the said King has never been seen on-screen, only from POVs of others, hmm, that's interesting,
it's been Ages since i last read WoT, well, now that i'm trying to catch-up, i'm all excited for all of this,
man, how i missed those skirt-smoothing, dress descriptions, the shiftty eyes, the bitchy Aes Sedai politics/plots/schemes,
and most of all - nynaeve's braid-tugging,
It's not who I am underneath.. but what i do that defines me - Batman, Batman Begins; 'Without our deaths, sir, there would be no crime. Thus, no punishment to match,' 'Mortal Sword - '

lol, of all the things to miss, you pick the bits that most people hate! I also love the Aes Sedai politicking, no matter how insufferable they get. And I like the skirt-smoothing and braid-tugging because often the only emotion people show is in adjustments of their clothing, and if you're in 3rd limited you have to convey that. It's realistic. People have weird habits, too; not everyone does, but braid-tugging isn't any weirder than many of the strange habits I've seen. It's Nynaeve's way of trying to hold in her anger, trying to take it out on herself instead of others. Not that it ever helps much.

well, that goes to show how much time in the Wheel had passed since i last read them, that i'm quite alright to overlook those,
yah, i know, we all each have different mannerisms in us, that really defines us,
a bit off-topic, if you have seen Lie to Me - a TV series starring Tim Roth? the one who is Abomination in Incredible Hulk,
they have a really nice catalogue of mannerisms there that shows what emotions you are depicting and to determine if you are lying, just by a twitch of the lips, body movements, etc,
so i could forgive those on Nynaeve, what irritates me the most is the fact that many of the problems in WoT could easily have handled, if they all just communicated easily,
easy asking, like asking for the moon, that is,
It's not who I am underneath.. but what i do that defines me - Batman, Batman Begins; 'Without our deaths, sir, there would be no crime. Thus, no punishment to match,' 'Mortal Sword - '

If Rand knew about Tuon and Mat, if Egwene would just listen to Rand there are plenty of scenarios. I think TGS and TOM are my favourite books after the first. I cannot put them down when I start reading.

i can't wait to read my TGS, but i have skipped KoD, so i guess it'll just have to wait, and maybe i'll bring along ToM along with it, hmm, gotta start saving right now, for the 2 of those then another one by Jim Butcher.
Spoiler

yes, i agree, since they all work for the damn Light, why couldn't they set aside their differences and i mean differences as in, being Aes Sedai and Male Chaneller, it would be cool, like planning how to siege the Blight and working together to bring down the Forsaken and the Shadow, and IIRC, the greatest feats of the Age of Legends is by Men and Women working together, they should have learned from the Choedan Kal scenes by Rand and Nynaeve, since these 2 are the stongest of the bunch, but no, they all go MULEY and stubborn and all they think is their own manipulations, which really irks me by the way,

BTW, i really hate Egwene, there i said it, more so than the rest of the Aes Sedai, Nynaeve and the rest of the women of WoT, since the beginning of the Third Age,
if Mat & Co. went to Aelfinn/Eelfinn(sp?) tower, and rescue Moiraine, did she appear on-screen? can't wait for Moiraine, she really made WoT for me, really miss her since FoH,

heh, don't know that I can give any kind of special answer on that one. Yes, we see her in TOM, though not long enough to see all those reunions you're waiting for, unless you count her rescuers.

well, i know it would take time for her to just appear and take control again for/with Rand, maybe what i'm really anxious and excited is how her reappearance will make the impact and attention it needed for her to make her statement/alliance/submission for Rand in their upcoming Final Battle with the Shadow,
will she once again join Rand as his mentor/adviser, and immediately replace Cadsuane, cause in the end before her disappearance in FoH, she's the only one whom Rand had trusted, and that's no mean feat, cause she lowered her pride and humbly asked to be his adviser, that's why she's LEAGUES ahead of any Aes Sedai in my eyes, definitely my favorite,

i'm now a few chapters in CoT, i'm a little lost to some plot points here as this is my first read since WH, and i've forgotten many things that was going before this, but its ok, i'll just have to persevere,
as an aside, i have decided to buy ToM in hard cover to go along with my TGS hc and will be buying AMoL also in hard cover, although with KoD i'll just buy it in mmpb,

Did you miss a book on purpose or decide not to read it this time through? I was happy enough to read every book all the way through over the last few months.

We think that Moiraine will at least have a big part in his death but I agree she is my favourite Aes Sedai.

Your opinion of Egwene will change in TGS imo.

well, TBH, its been years, 2005 was the year i bought WH, and i only read it a few times after that, this will be my first reading of WoT since then, i've gotten tired of it before and since my local bookstore stopped selling the UK Orbit ones, and stayed with the TOR covers, i also stopped buying, waiting once again for them to sell UK Orbit ones, but it never happened that's why my NS and COT and TGS is now TOR ones, and since many of you here in MalazanEmpire gives the RJ/BS ones great reviews and positive feedback, i have decided to once again endeavor, and since Malazan renewed my reading passion, and i've been exploring other books now, i've since had an open mind about stuff now that i might not have liked before, all thanks to SE's Malazan Book of the Fallen,

we'll see, it may or may not, but she will still not be my favorite, as that is reserved for Moiraine, :harhar:

they are both my favorites, in different cases they're both great, although it isn't a match made in heaven, i will be having trouble deciding who will win, as Anomander is still noble despite his early reputation, and Moiraine can be Bad Ass when she wants to,
aside from Nynaeve, who fought a cowardly Moghedien, Moiraine took the strongest Forsaken lady that is Lanfear, that's why she's such a Bad Ass Aes Sedai,
by the way, its ok for any of you to spoiler it for me, did Mesaana finally cracked in the White Tower in TGS?
It's not who I am underneath.. but what i do that defines me - Batman, Batman Begins; 'Without our deaths, sir, there would be no crime. Thus, no punishment to match,' 'Mortal Sword - '
'We are done, my friend. Now, in this manner, we choose the meaning of our deaths' - Mortal Sword Brukhalian to Veteran Nilbanas, siege of Capustan
'Ippen shinde miru (want to try dying this once) ?' - Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl)
