Terez, Just finished Crown of Swords.

I couldn't put it down, although I do have a few questions.

In no particular order.

When Fain stabs Rand and he is weak/dying the Asha'Man have a great opportunity to kill him. So why don't they?

Do we know of all the items Sammael gets from the storage room in the Rahad? I know he gets an oath rod for Sevanna..

Rand is weak from Fain's attack, he hasn't eaten even though he has been healed yet he goes off to fight a fully fit Forsaken? What's all that about?

Was it Moridin helping Rand in Shadar Logoth? Do we know why?

Does Sammael die? I would have lliked to see it happen but nothing actually does, what are your thoughts on all of this?

Not all of them want to kill him. Flinn is good, for example.

He didn't get them from there, because he hadn't found the stash. He probably got the binder from a stasis box.

Flinn uses the same kind of healing as Nynaeve, which doesn't cause the extreme hunger because it doesn't use the strength of the person being Healed so much.

Yes, and we're not sure why exactly other than that Sammael was a competitor for Nae'blis and Moridin wanted him out of the way. He probably wasn't too worried about Sammael, so it's probably safe to assume he was there for another reason. It doesn't appear to be the bonding, though, since that appears to have been an accident.

RJ said Mashadar killed him, and Brandon said he couldn't be transmigrated because Mashadar corrupted his soul.

I know but this is their greatest opportunity surely?

The Gholam belonged to Sammael and they did take things from the storeroom. Only after this did he give Sevanna the Oath rod. He also told Greandal he was looking for it.

Wow. Really? I need to read that one more time then because it looked as though his Balefire took out Liah and that Sammael did a vanishing act. I mean how did Sammael be stupid enough to get taken out by Mashadar? Do you think it was because Rand is Ta'veren?

I don't understand. Why would they take the 'opportunity' if they don't want to kill him?

It's because he was so obsessed with Rand that he got killed by something he wasn't paying attention to. And last Rand saw him, Mashadar was swooping down on him, so it shouldn't be too surprising that's how he died.

Dashiva was evil although we don't know it. He could have killed Rand there and then is my point.

Thanks for the rest of your answers ;-)

He couldn't have killed Rand there because Rand was surrounded by faithful Asha'man and Aes Sedai. See all the trouble he and the others went to in TPOD to attack Rand anonymously, when he was alone.

I'm doing another reread now. And yes, I'm quite excited for the last book; the recent release of the two covers along with some comments by Whelan and a consultant of his have led to something of a theory frenzy in WoT-land. We have new info to work with, and we're trying to figure out how far we can take it. We're not even sure if the mountain on the DKS cover is Dragonmount or Shayol Ghul.

I looked at them and the cover looks great. It gets me excited.

Q, How does Sorilea know of travelling to show Cadsuane in the Path of Daggers?

Also why do many believe her to be a Darkfriend?

Sorilea presumably learned Traveling from the other Wise Ones. Egwene had been teaching them in their dreams. As for Sorilea being a Darkfriend, the essence of it is: Sorilea purposefully put Cadsuane in her debt in that scene, so that she could call in that debt later. She did so in TGS, and thus Semirhage captured Rand. There's a great deal more evidence than that, but that's the heart of it.

I'll look out for that in the Gathering Storm then. Not something I have picked up on in the past.

Do you think she will play a further part? Cadsuane seems to have done her part by helping Rand laugh again.

I'm not sure she helped with that at all, hard as she tried. In any case, we don't know if that's what she's supposed to teach him anyway. But you can count on this happening:

ACOS 36, Blades said:

"Be quiet!" Cadsuane roared, slapping her hands together in a thundercrack. "You, girl. He needs his bed. Hop!" Nandera hopped. Rand was stripped and in his bed in a twinkling, with Samitsu and Niande both hovering over him, the Cairhienin chased out and Nandera at the door repeating Cadsuane’s instructions that he was not to be disturbed by anyone, all so fast Min felt dizzy. She hoped one day to see the confrontation between Cadsuane and the Wise One Sorilea; it had to come, and it would be memorable.

Screams 'foreshadowing' from a mile away.

This is something I have not really put a great deal of thought into. Some mysteries are just begging to be solved, and Sorilea's allegiances fall into that category but the nature of their confrontation is something I'm mostly content to RAFO. I can see it going a few ways—like, Cadsuane realizing she was betrayed and confronting Sorilea—but the only thing I'm really sold on is that Cadsuane is going to die in a blaze of glory at some point during the book, and I'm guessing that her confrontation with Sorilea is as good a time as any. But she had better kill Sorilea first.

How does Shadar Haran stop people from touching the source? Does he shield them using the True Power/Source or is this something we do not know?

Probably something to do with the True Power. Which is totally different from the True Source (which is the One Power). Myrddraal can't channel but they were created with the True Power, and the True Power is the essence of the Dark One, and Shaidar Haran is something like an avatar of the Dark One. He can only do that with people who have sworn to the Shadow, perhaps only people who have used the True Power. Whether that gives him the ability to do that to Rand or not, we have no idea, but it's a possibility.

Did you like this from Noal or Jaim/Jain Farstrider?

"Fortune rides like the sun on high,
with the fox that makes the ravens fly.
Luck his soul, Lightning his eye,
He snatches the moons from out of the sky."

What does "Lighning his eye" mean? I think I can figure out the rest.

It could mean a few things. The lightning might represent Tuon, or the Aes Sedai symbol that makes the eye on his foxhead medallion (which represents the Power).

OR A GLASS EYE THAT SHOOTS BOLTS OF ELECTRICITY
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

It's not who I am underneath.. but what i do that defines me - Batman, Batman Begins; 'Without our deaths, sir, there would be no crime. Thus, no punishment to match,' 'Mortal Sword - '
'We are done, my friend. Now, in this manner, we choose the meaning of our deaths' - Mortal Sword Brukhalian to Veteran Nilbanas, siege of Capustan
'Ippen shinde miru (want to try dying this once) ?' - Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl)
