I learned that "doom scrolling" is a thing. I've find myself getting more into medieval doom paintings though. I remember being exposed to this art style when I was just a child, and it freaked me the fuck out. I really didn't know what it was at the time and was scared, but now I find it fascinating.

Speaking of flat tyres, I went to Amberley today for work and was driving back when my passenger says "Check that out on the left!" I look across and there's some sort of wanky SUV type thing - looked like either a Range Rover or BMW X5 - with smoke coming from the front right tyre. The tyre had pretty much shredded at 100 km/h and it looked like they weren't doing anything about it, but after 20 seconds they disappeared from view. It was on the motorway so I'm hoping they were just looking for a safe place to pull over. Pretty impressive at the time though.

Growing up in the sticks, on a farm, I was one of them boys who would catch anything - snakes, spiders, polliwogs and salamanders from gross, dank still ponds... you name it, I caught it. I was ripped right out of that what are little girls and little boys made of poem.

^^^ Necessary set up - I remember catching a preying mantis and putting it in a Tupperware container. I then caught a grasshopper and dropped it in with the preying mantis. Whooboy, what I witnessed made jolts of excitement dance on my 8 year old brain. That preying mantis did some work! The preying mantis is one creature that lives up to the hype, no joke!

A minor win for this 2020 hellscape of a year. How many more nests are there though?

People who finish written sentences with "lol" should be excommunicated. If upon further analysis it's deemed there was nothing funny about the sentence, the punishment should be changed to quartering and burning.

Wasn't sure where to post this, so I guess it will go here.

Can anyone explain what OnlyFans is? I keep seeing that more and more in my internet traversals. Is that a subscription site that allows "content creators to monetize their work"? Which really is just a marketing/PR way to say it's a pay site that gives you access to porn created by celebrities? And using the word "celebrities" very loosely here.

It is a content creators site, designed to give more money directly to the actual creators. There are artists and musicians etc. on there, but something like 90% of the content is people stripping/porn etc.

ah, ok. Yah, I haven't really delved into it much. I know I saw an article with a heading that suggests a cosplay hottie is going to auction off her bath water for one of her fans to drink.

OnlyFans isn't the same as that deal as (I believe it's called "Gossip"? or maybe Cam-Me? or Cameo maybe?) Where you can get a washed up celebrity to make a short vid and send to a friend, like a birthday message? I believe one of the bit actors from The Office makes a killing on that. Like a million dollars a pop or something.

My take on any of this is that we are way past their being any kind of integrity to art or expressing your talents to say something about the human condition and all bets are off now. It's a free for all, and you run it up the flag pole and see who will salute it.

Question about Racewalking.

How does that work? Is there someone tasked to watch each competitor through the race (to make sure they don't break form)? Or is it based on the honor system? Because over the miles, when no one is watching, you could just strike up a brisk jog or run and no one would be the wiser.

Hey what gives!? So I'm driving down the highway and I see a semi-truck hauling a flatbed carrying a load of lumber. On the side of the lumber it says "Dunkley Lumber Ltd. Imported from British Columbia, Canada." What up with that? I thought Trump put the kibosh on lumber trade with Canada? It's our manifest destiny to exploit our own resources.

Does this mean the new housing starts in the US are on fyah?

Tariffs not ban.

Lumber prices have fallen but supply chain and personnel issues are still constraining production.
