Listen up you maple syrup drinking jag offs! You suck at your national sports (hockey & curling), but here's something to hang your hats on. A first: a Canadian born pitcher, pitched a not hitter, in Canada.

I would have been a lot happier if he hadn't done it against the only Canadian team...
But it's still nice to see, he must have had a good cup of syrup before that one.

You guys pumped for the royal wedding this coming weekend? You gonna dust of that special tin of tea for special occasions and cut loose? Maybe pick up those extra decadent crumpets and make a whole day of it?

You're all just jealous that here in Canada the government is legally obligated to mail us a free picture of the queen if we ask for it. Talk about perks

Agreed.

I will be drinking tea certainly, but it'll be on my lunch break from throwing birds of prey around all day. Sorry to said couple, but my Saturday beats theirs in my book!

Nah, I'll be at a cottage from Fri to Tuesday in various stages of inebriation, with no cable.

Wow, didn't know where to post this. I couldn't find an NBA thread under the sports topic. I don't think any of you guys really follow basketball. I sorta remember there was a member back in the day who had a Syracuse basketball player as his avatar. Also, I didn't want to post this in the Making me happy / Messing with my groove threads, because it doesn't really apply there. So, I think this is the only place I could find for it. Here goes.

LeBron James is going to the Las Angeles Lakers. Not sure how that news lands with our international folks, but it's huge here in the US. Behind Ronaldo, LeBron James is probably the next most recognizable sports athlete globally. He has business ventures in a lot of different areas, including a production company, so going to L.A. makes sense in that respect. As far as basketball goes, the Lakers are missing key pieces in order for them to compete against the champions - Golden State Warriors (or even Houston Rockets). Moving to the Western Conference he would face them more times during the regular season, so may be that could be beneficial, I doubt it though. Any ways guys, this news has sent shock waves through the sports world, and really is major news in its own right. You guys can agree or disagree if you would like to. Or maybe just offer any insight you have. Like I said, I don't think there are any basketball fans here, so I doubt much will be said about it. But leave no doubt, it's big.

WhiskeyJackDaniels had that avatar.

I have to believe he's assuming he can bring other players with him. As much as he cares about how he'll be remembered amongst the greats, and all he wants to do is win I dont know how this makes sense. And he sure doesnt need the money.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

Rumor is Kawhi Leonard wants to go to the Lakers. It's no secret he wants out of San Antonio. San Antonio will want a lot for him though. If the Lakers could dump the Ball family distraction and keep Kyle Kuzma and some other young players, that might be something if that went down. Still, not sure it would be enough to challenge the Warriors.

[EDIT] Oh yeah, WhiskeyJackDaniels. That's right. I remember bringing it up to him and he was impressed that I knew who the player was. I wonder what ever happened to him?

I don't follow the NBA super closely but it is my understanding that LeBron almost single-handedly carried the Cavs to the Finals this year, as much as any one person could do such a thing. And especially when that teammate wore out the clock even thought the teams were tied, and they ultimately lost in overtime, LJ looked pretty much exasperated.

I imagine all the pretentious, beautiful people (i.e. LA entertainment icons on down to trashy reality stars) will make sure their latest face stretching and butt implants will be on display, and de rigueur at home games the upcoming season.

And yes, he carried the Cavaliers. But it was also his fault as to why Cleveland had no good talent to surround him (other then maybe Kevin Love). His passive aggressive use of social media to work out his frustrations and alleged behind the scenes control point to him having way more influence then a player should have in personnel decisions.

With LeBron going to L.A., Vegas odds makers give the Lakers the second best (@ 7 - 2) to win it all (which is ridiculous). The Cavaliers odds have dropped to 500 - 1.

The struggle is real!

Denmark has had a drought for over a month now with no real rain or just a cloudy day in sight. The temperature is constantly somewhere around 25-30.

As a person who likes winter time and rainy days I can categorically state that this is the worst summer in living memory.
