Every Forkrul Assail death scene except Calm was pretty awesome.

The toy scene with Saddic and Badalle had me bawling like a baby.

The "Your beautiful" scene with Twilight and Yedan. Actually any scene with Yedan was exciting.

The Jaghut laughing when the Teblor join the fight.

The last marines laughing at the hill for some reason made me tear up.

TCG saying he was the only one who could write the Book of the Fallen and so many more.

I honestly thought the most perfectly breathtaking and devastating moment was when Sharl died at the end of the battle for the the shore in either pity's or brevity's arms

Tavore's anguished cry had me sobbing.

The Jaghut, Imass, K'Chain Chemalle and Teblor fighting as allies was pretty epic.

The Shore. Oh my gods, the Shore. Spinnock Durav's (spelled wrong, probably) speech.

Gesler fighting to save Bent.

Smiles smiling.

I'll try to list scenes that weren't mentioned.

-Badalle learning that Saddic's useless junk was toys. They try and figure out how to play, and Ruthan Gudd decides to use this as the motivation to keep the troops going

-seeing the Snake found, thinking they're saved, only to realize these people are in just as bad a spot as they are. That part was so heart wrenchingly tragic. Also seeing everyone share their water, after knowing how scarce it is, and how the BH and Khundryl are already dehydrated and dying

-Felash's Seguleh handmaiden clearing the FA ship (not sure if this was mentioned)

Those first two were pretty powerful, and the handmaiden clearing the ship was awesome. I wonder what her Seguleh rank is? Maybe it was stated but I missed it?

Sandalath's memory/flashback/madness scenes in Kharkanas. The feeling that oh shit, we're almost being told what happened here but not quite, give me that Kharkanas trilogy already damnit!

Silchas & Tulas reunion, how it first seems as though they're gonna fight but turn out to be best buddies.

Above mentioned buddies getting their Storm and rushing to Korabas' aid, expecting to die with her. For the record, I expected that too.

Corabb finally finding his glory as a Bonehunter.

Korlat/Whiskeyjack scene that we almost get to witness at the end.
It was ever thus.

Was it Fiddler's thought, the italicized portion, hope I quote it correct. "It's raining fucking dragons, god."

That scene was particularly poignant, especially the revelation about her kids.

Never given.
And very curious how there were six Seguleh, all female, who together end up serving Abrastal.

I don't think that was coincidental. SE has us and he wants to keep us.

Indeed. After ten books of this pure unmitigated awesomeness, I've kind of grown to assume that nothing's coincidental. He seems to have such absolute control over the big picture...

- Spax telling Abrastal about knocking up her daughter as he leaves for his desperate stand, hilarious and touching.

- Finding out about Paran's raid on the Moranth warehouse, about the new munitions. and then the sappers stealing them. Brilliant.

- Paran's army coming out of the walls of the fortress

- Crokus finding Apsalar at the end!

- The Voles!

Sharls brother sdying young and the new people she looked after simply accepting their names was probably the best character revalation in the entire book. Just finished a reread of both DOD and TCG and there was a load of good scenes but Hetan did not need to come back.

Felash's handmaiden plowing her way through endless amounts of people.

Draconus Killing the hell out off all those annoying elder gods.

Telorast and Curdle finally kicking some ass.

Paran's sappers blowing the crap out of Erikala's Perish
"It seems I have stumbled upon another crime in progress"
Tehol held out the chicken by it's scrawny neck, "Here then, we never really expected the ransom in any case."

I would have loved to have one more scene with Telorast and Curdle in action, that's for sure.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Just reading through these "oh my god" moments makes me happy again.
We don't know that Telorast & Curdle died. Likely as did not see at end like Silchus, but maybe not.

I sure hope they didn't die. They're far too hilarious to die.

Only Tulas died (you know what I mean) I think. The chained didnt die and Ruin is there at the end. I never actually got the deal with Tel and Curdle though it is explained over the course of DOD and TCG.

If I got it right they were the two dragons that came closer at ruling the Shadow realm but in the end Rake and Kilmandaros(I believe) defeated them. Then Edgewalker,as protector of the HoS,gave them a choice: either the chains of Dragnipur or those of Shadow. They chose Shadow. Then,at one point,Dessimbelackis,in need of allies, offered them a mean of escape by shifting their soul in an Andii body. However they soon discovered that it was useless because as soon as they veered in their dragon form they would be chained again.

Yah, that's what I got out of it too. But I wonder, was there any hint that Tulas Shorn recognized Telorast and Curdle at all? Maybe he was already gone by then, just wondering.

1. The scene in which Mappo is reflecting on his abandonment of the kids to Olar Ethil, and then again when he hears Badalle singing while he's alone in the desert. I can picture it, a lone shadow on the horizon (since I think he was travelling alone, meeting no one in the Glass Desert). Then he thinks of Icarium and resumes running across the wastes. His death was pretty sad, especially when he thinks back to his early life 'a young Trell warrior from the tribe' was it? Made me realize that apart from longevity and high immunity to disease, Mappo was no extraordinary mortal or ascendant-type. Just like his predecessors, he's just a warrior taking on the insane task of travelling with Icarium - someone who is miles and miles above Mappo's level. And that makes his story all the more tragic. When he first battled a D'ivers in Raraku was it? and he falls down a cliff taking it with him (unlike most i didn't do a re-read prior to TCG :@) I had thought Mappo was one tough cookie as capable and powerful as Icarium and Karsa and the like. Truth is I think maybe he could have put up a fight against Calm - after all Gesler fought the FA at end (i forget her name). But just running alone for like a week or more across wastes would have taken its toll, and I think he was just too damn spent.

2. Gruntle's last act. Although it wasn't explosive or insanely hyped up like other acts were in TCG and previous books, it was a standout scene for me. Gruntle is pissed, pissed at the gods, pissed at everything thats happened to him. He thinks back to Capustan, and remembers his life then. Truth be told, I didn't expect him to do what he did, but I understand now that Trake's an asshole, and Gruntle probably knew best. I imagine he said something like you've lived long enough and drunk and fed on enough blood, now it ends, for both of us. when he finally slammed against the wall, all chewed up, and passed on, that was a big big moment in the series. one of many plotlines, we come upon Gruntle in MOI in probably the best city battle this series has seen (Capustan - the grey swords, Itkovian!!, gruntle, tenescowri), and even at the end his experience in that book shapes his last act.

3. Corabb's last stand. Amazing! And just a few scenes before, he's adressing his squad, saying something like 'Glory! my friends..--' and he's interrupted by Cuttle or someone. Funny how he felt he was home beside the bonehunters, when we think of where he started off. Then there's the moment when he tells Smiles she's gonna be at his side.

4. Shortnose's last stand, just as epic. Not a very fleshed-out character, but his story was great. Lost his old squad buddies (what happened to his wife? killed off?) joined up a new one (and the part where he does is great - he just slips in sits down in silence).

5. Stormy and Gesler last act - Gesler's especially - him saving the dog, cos of Truth and all he'd just lost like Stormy moments before - put him in a mindframe similar to what Gruntle went through in the end. The Truth flashback was a great great touch.

6. Not exactly a moment, but a bunch of moments. Specifically, SE's writing style. When he turned to the marines, he'd shift from squad to squad, like Band of Brothers did (HBO). We'd see Badan Gruk and his guys, Sinter, Hellian - always great moments, Balm, Tarr, Urb, plus any other i haven't mentioned from the last few books. And this isn't taking into account all the other sergeants and their squad antics from books past, those that've been killed off or retired, That's why I don't agree with the criticism about wasting too much time on the marines, damnit, this is why we loved the BB's! why'd it be any different with the BH? I think only Glen Cook's Black Company has this camaraderie displayed with such great effect, alongside SE.

7. Torrent's last act - A victory for the underdog, but as in all things SE, those who do great deeds mostly die shortly after. That said, Torrent's final scene of him sliding down the ice, into the whole, right after he kills Olar Ethil, was amazing. He's saved the kids, even though he doesn't know who's kids they are (he never meet Tool, right?). he's doing this as a debt to Toc, who he knew only briefly, and also the Awl children who died. He did all he could. Similar end to Mappo, and Ges IMO.
