Good luck. You've made it through the hardest part. Just try to remember that if you cheat now, it means the suffering you have gone through this past week has all been wasted, and you put yourself through it for no reason at all. Stay strong.

ZERO TOLERANCE!!! You are a drug addict. Don't let your junkie urges control you.

Oh, and I can't believe you people don't appreciate the clever bit of word play in my signature. It's funny, dammit.

I got it and was amused :D So much so that I have now given you some rep for it.

The devil with the siggies [sic] is still here, taunting me with his mere presence. I'm actually past the craving though so it's not that bad right now. I just need to start taking this seriously, I've quit about 20 times in the past couple of years, it's getting ridiculous!

Well, this time you have the best life and anti-smoking coach available. Refuse to let your addiction control who you are any more.

I was blinded by the prospect of getting laid. I blame demon woman. I actually only known I cheated when my friend Reade told me he's my sponsor, I have his signature on the last pack I pledged I'd ever smoke.

I am strong, but being really, really drunk hurts the willpower segment of the equation. I'M SORRY, RLY- I FAILED YOU.

I'm so, so sorry. I will renew my pledge to you gentlemen (and women) to stop smoking today, September 12th 2009. I AM A ROCK, A NON-SMOKING ITSELF ROCK.

EDIT: 1 month without smoking, a first step. Next: THE WORLD.
EDIT EDIT: And demon Drink.

I can't say I'm not disappointed, but the important thing is to keep working at it. ok, you screwed up. Don't use that as an excuse to say screw it and start smoking again. Accept that you had a setback. Your Smoke Free Days number is reset back to zero. All you can do is focus on getting that number back up. You can do it, you just need to avoid your junkie behavior and excuses.

nine days in the books. One pack of chewing gum destroyed, but other than that, not too many withdrawal issues. I think I pretty much have this beaten. Next step, lowering cafine intake....but not yet, I still use that as comfort food.

Had an awesome RLY anti smoking moment this morning

Was dropping the wife off at work and just as I pulled away I saw a couple of highschool girls walking down the sidewalk smoking

I actually said "that's fucking disgusting" without thinking about it.

First time I've looked at someone smoking with even mild revulsion in a very very long time.

The true test for me will be when I get things started up with my band again though. They are all chainsmokers and it will be extremely tough for me not to join in.

EDIT

And I'm totally finding it easier when drunk too. I've had several really heavy parties in the last few weeks and totally resitsted the urge. I'm finally able to tune out the smoking + drinking = good impulse I've had for so long. Now I still want one deep down, but I'm able to make the mental connection to my quitting centre more easily and resist the urge.

I also thought my dope-smoking would balloon in the absence of smokes, but even that has stayed pretty occasional. I know its technically cheating, but I'm not counting it.

Is dope smoke anywhere near as bad as cig smoke anyway?

@Adjutant,

Don't worry about the setback. Keep going, the demon drink is a tough roadblock.

Good work. The people around me in real life who have been trying to quit with me have been dropping like flies. They all have excuses. I'm not buying any of them.

2 weeks, Im still just a little moody. But no nicotine or alcohol for 15 days, and no treatments, such as patches or nicotine gum etc. I just chew a piece of trident when I get really bad, but I am trying to not do that so much as I dont want to get hooked on chewing gum lol. Gotta say, Im pretty proud of myself.

Good job guys

RLY, I'm proud of you fro starting such an awesome and positive trend.

never really smoked in my life, but that's because I was an asthmatic kid and the words "lung problems" have pretty much scarred me for life, so I've never had an urge to smoke. i've been peer-pressured into it a few times in high school, but got absolutely no kick out of it, and I've never wanted to go back.

My dad fionally managed to quit about a year ago. he said really good things about the Carr book.

Thanks mentalist. I'm pleased it's worked out like this. This thread was originally intended to just be therapeutic for me, but I couldn't be happier that others are quitting too.

hoo yeah. Another weekend of extremely heavy partying bites the dust.

I don't want to let down my guard entirely, but I think I've got this one mostly beat.

I guess you just have to achieve a state of not-smoking-is-normal for it to truly become automatic. I think I'm getting pretty close.

Good work. Now the danger is thinking that you've got it beat, so it couldn't hurt to have one siince you clearly aren't addicted any more. Rookie mistake, watch out for that.

don't worry, I'm an old hand at that re-start smoking trick.

Its what's gotten me every single time I've tried to go 100% smokeless.

True, but it sucks. I've been having some wicked cravings the past few days anyways, so this is just another way devil nicotine is trying to convinced me to start smoking again. Not going to happen.

You should work out, substitute endorphins for nicotine. That's my current plan of action.

Although, I just royally f-ed up my left leg today, so that might fail in the near future...
