Bump, and update on my still not smokingness


still not smoking.

But I've had some seriously bad cravings lately when good friends (ie friends I usually bum smokes off of) are smoking.

Still resisting though.

I think I might have a problem with the long-term resolve. I'm good at present but that "one won't hurt" mentality only gets stronger the longer you go smoke free.

I am no longer tempted to smoke. I'll think about it, and say, "hmmm, it'd be fun to have a cigarette right now." Then I remember the suffering I went through trying to quit and admit that I most certainly due have a horribly easily addicted trait, and the moment passes away.

The only, and I mean ONLY, reason I would start smoking again is to lose the weight I put on when I quit and started stuffing my face with food.

In other news, has anybody else seen though, "you don't drink every time you smoke" ads? Those are awesome.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

The weight gain is killing me. 20 pounds about. ON my frame that's not super noticable, the wife hasn't even mentioned it, but I officially have one pair of work pants that fit.

I've been having a hard time lately too. Closing on 4 months and it still just hurts sometimes. Not enough to get me to start again, but it's a fight. THe other day I was daydreaming about if I found out I had an inoperable brain tumor I could start smoking again guilt free. When I noticed what i was doing I had a huge grin on my face.

Still though, when ever a smoker walks in the room I am reminded of how badly I used to smell. I haven't coughed up any brown shit for months. I can go upstairs and go to bed and not be out of breath. I don't spend 10 dollars a day on smokes, and want to slap myself when I think of when I did.

God, one would be good though. Not happening though. Zero tolerance. I am an addict.

at least you're not blaming it on the smokes themselves.

I hate that how alcoholism etc...is always referred to as a "disease", which shifts responsibility completely away from the alcoholic. You're an alcoholic cause you choose to drink. You can stop if you choose not to drink and realize that drink doesn't really hold any real power over you whatsoever. Its inanimate and therefore incapable of persuasion (though I like to think so sometimes...devil drink).

Same for smoking. Its hard when physical addictions to nicotine try to convince you to keep doing the addictive behaviour but in the end it still comes down to choice.

I like the "just say no" mentality. No blame on anything, no BS, just say no. It really is that simple. Your choice.

I failed 2night...got drunk...only good news is no smokeless cravings...however nicotie did enter my body so it is still fail..im disappointed...but drunk and happy I dont want smokeless tobacco..so its 50/50...still feel bad..

yeah...dipping was the goal...drinking and smoking just encouraged dipping...so not a total loss...but still a defeat is a defeat...Thanks for the support...

I saw some smoking discussion in the pics thread and it reminded me of this one.

I was wondering if RLY and the others that quit as a result of this thread are sticking with their guns?

Personally haven't smoked a cigarette since late July. Not that I was ever chronic, but still 100% off the party smoking.

And cut way back on my dope smoking too.

In all honesty I lack the imagination and motivation to do it, at least until I get an awesome girl that will want me to. Or I'll just convince myself that she'd see me as weak if I couldn't.

Now, to work.

I am also still tobacco free since I quit in July. I think some of the other s have slipped. I still haven't cheated. I did however put on about 30 pounds. Ouch.

To be fair, I wasn't a thin guy to begin with. I have the natural tedency to be a bit of a fatty anyways, and quitting the cigs just made it worse. I also have not done anything to avoid the weight. i need to start exercising.

I'm telling that myself for quite a while. And still, I haven't had good, regular excercise since I trained volleyball at uni. Pity, that, I felt a lot better back then.
Now I'm waiting for the snow and ice coating to go off the sidewalks so I can start jogging, but somehow that just sounds like an excuse not to do it JUST YET. I should probably utilize the free gym pass I get from work.

Dude, do not fall into the "the person I'm dating smokes so I'll start too" trap. It's going to start with just one every once in a while whilst keeping her company outside, then progress to you being a full-time smoker without even realizing it's happening.

I was an occasional smoke for years. Even that is hard to quit, much less full-time smoking.

Starting tomorrow with the quitting. I've cleared my pc history, cache and everything, put a hold on my credit cards and given them to my husband. Gonna be a rough three days.
