Primer is fantastic. The understated way in which the whole concept is carried off is brilliantly handled. The big twist (well the biggest of the twists, at least) is a gutshot - I should have seen it coming, it was right there in plain view, but I didn't. It's nice to see a time travel movie that doesn't feel it has to handhold its audience.

I saw Paranormal Activity 2 last night... sweet jesus it was just as frightening as the first!

Just watched "Red". Very funny and well done, let down only by a couple of minor plot holes, a weird sense of "nod and wink" smugness (the worst example of which was Oceans 12) and Julian McMahons' awful acting - thank goodness he only has a few lines.

watched Hereafter, and I still have to say RED is the best movie I have seen in the past 2 months.

The Sun reports that at least one person threw up and another fainted during the screening on Thursday at the London Film Festival.

Paramedics were called to treat fans, with one person saying many cinemagoers were left "white as sheets".

Movie critics have commented on the scene, saying they too found it almost too much to watch.

"As Aron tried in vain to draw blood with his blunt tool, I did wince and put my hand up to my eye," The Sun's Grant Rollings said.

"That, though, was not as bad as hearing the loud snap as Ralston broke his bone, or seeing him slowly slice it off."

Franco was at the premiere and admitted people had fainted during test screenings.

It follows reports of people passing out at the Telluride Film Festival, where the film made its debut, and at the Toronto Film Festival.

American film critic John Foote said audience members in Toronto were "clearly in shock".

"[They were] struggling to stay in their seats, working to get past the intensity of what was going on in front of them," Foote said.

"So overwhelmed were these [audience] members by what was happening on screen ...they simply could not take it.

"I cannot remember a reaction to a film like this in a very long time, perhaps not since The Exorcist sent audiences scurrying for the doors."

A spokeswoman from Fox Searchlight, the film's distributor, said a young woman suffered a panic attack while watching the film.

Another man had to be carried out on a gurney after becoming faint.

I reckon you could go watch a hundred horror or splatter films that could boast a similar scene.

I think it is because the film is not geared as a horror film. It's a drama. The reality of what the guy had to do to survive that gets them.

Also the rape scene from that italian film a couple of years ago comes to mind regarding audience shock.

Probably never going to watch this film though. That scene where James Kaans legs are broken in Misery is still etched into my mind.

Finally saw Bronson. It was awesome, and weird, and well-shot with a nice soundtrack. And what a performance from Tom Hardy! Holy crap, that man is talented.

A very interesting movie. Well worth the watch. But it worries me that I really liked Bronson the character, seeing as he's extremely violent and dangerous...not a pleasant man at all. But watching the movie I kinda...routed for him :(

4.5 out of 5 naked fight scenes.

Also saw 30 Days of Night: Dark Days. It sucked...in more ways thatn one. Plot, acting, atmosphere, dialogue, special effects, setting etc etc etc. Ugh.

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON - while simplistic, this flic was a LOT of good silly fun. I understand how it made like a trillion dollars from repeat views by insistent kids and their parents who didn't put up much of a fight. I'm actually sorry I didn't see it on a big screen.

THEY DID NOT SPARKLE IN THE SUN....


the burned up like proper vampires....

my only critique was that for it being 30 days they should have showed more hardships to the humans, ie food, safe shelter to include warmth, oh and shaving and hygene... I cant believe I don't know how to spell hygiene off the top of my head... Microsoft word has really done a number on me.

but i let all that slide... except my poor grammar and spelling skills.

and Apt's biased vampire/josh hate...

They were caricatures of vampires.

Admittedly I gave up on it after the first half so I don't know if it got any better, but I did fast forward to see the ending and it was so predictable that I actually laughed.

The vampires, who apparently only come in the winter darkness to feed and play, start out by killing some 90% of the towns population. If you watch what they are doing, you can see they are just ripping open peoples throats, making them bleed to death and taking a sip. That is just plain stupid. Yes, it looks really awesome on camera, but it makes no sense. Then, for some stupid reason, these vampires decide that now that we have killed pretty much all the population, they are just going to hang around to see if some more come crawling out of the wood work. Unfortunately, despite being undead predators, these vampires are unable to smell, hear or even fucking see, let alone sense these survivors hiding in the attics and under cars.

And yes, that Josh guy, is fucking annoying. I just can't take the guy serious.

Amusing thing. I just came to this topic to ask about the title of that movie from a few years back that was said to be very 'wtf is going on here' mindfuck material... and I see the top of the page flashing and I see the title and I remembered it was this. Thanks, SM.

Despite the Coen brothers being awesome, I'm withholding judgement on a remake of a Duke film till i see it.

Although the fact that the remakes Mattie Ross looks 10 times less annoying than Kim Darby is a good start. And I have few doubts Matt Damon will be better than Glen Campbell.

But you cant replace John Wayne and Robert Duvall with anyone.

So we'll see.

Ahh so that was what the movie reminded me of. I saw that Johm Wayne film not long ago. While I always love John Wayne's characters, I honestly don't think it takes a lot of acting to out do those old cow boy movies, yes they have their own charm, but they are also very basic films with very basic character roles. It's not like they are remaking The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (god forbid)

OK. Primer has tied my brain into knots. Really complicated knots. I've unravelled some of it with a very nicely written recap, but I'm still putting the pieces together.

Awesome film I must say.

I'm not talking about acting skills, I agree with you on that (except for Duvall), which is why i think they could pull this off and still be good. Just levels of overall awesomeness in the movie.

I honestly hope no one is stupid enough to try and remake The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

As soon as Eastwood croaks (if he is not in fact immortal) I am sure they are going to re-make all of his his films and cast Elija Wood or Leboef to play the leading roles. And then Eastwoods corpse will rise from its grave and start a killing spree.
