Watched Primer this weekend. It's a small budget flick (made in 2004, by the way) about a couple of guys who inadvertently create a time-machine. It is well shot, and easy to watch. It is, however, confusing. Well done film that kept my attention, if only because the entire time I was thinking "what the fuck is going on?" It eventually delivers a conclusion, with other mysteries created and left fairly confusingly solved along the way.
All together, it is worth at least a watch as it puts your mind to a test as to figuring out the film as it is taking place. No matter what it is both dense and shallow, depending upon how much you care. In the end it delivers the moral and ethical questions that are usual normal question time-travel flicks have been based on for the past century.
It is hard to describe this film, actually. I've changed this review around quite a bit already.
Watch it and judge for yourself, I guess.
6.5 out of 10.
On second viewing, this movie absolutely astounds. I blame alcohol and purposeful complexity for an original lower rating. Watch this movie. It provides so much material to digest that I'd love to chat it over with someone.
9.0 out of 10. One of the most unique movies I've ever seen. Inception * A Sound of Thunder.
does this film involve time travel then? obviously I don't want you to give too much away but I have added this to my lovefilm account
It is, most definitely. The first sentence of my first review lays that out. This won't wow you with production values or effects. It is pure story and acting.
i'd be more intent on story and acting. I love the quantum leap series, i love any film with time travel, Hiro in Heroes, the time travellers wife, which to say is a film to watch if you like this sort of thing, and it did have me feeling rather sad, my girlfriend weeping in my arms...
i like the way you say one of the unique movies you have ever seen.. it makes me more intrigued!
3 films I would recommend strongly. I am happy to have watched all three and the American versions are not as great...
They are all subtitled films, so if this is not your thing then so what, they are amazing!!
First one is Run Lola Run, a brilliant film that grips you from the start, in a little way it is like sliding doors, but better, if things happen this way then this would happen, if things happen that way then other things would happen. 9/10 hippy strings!!
Second one is Amorres Perros I hope I have spelled this right. This is the better version of Crash, this was out way before crash was and is just better. Crash has a massive cast with many great actors involved, Amorres Perros has little budget and no truly famous actors but it is simply superb! 8/10
Third one is Rec. This is the better version of Quarantine imo. It is based in Spain and has a documentry feel to it, it follows a reporter doing a report on the spanish fire service, things get hairy from when they are called to their first location. Great film with a superb ending!! 9/10
