Of the two I think THUNDERBOLTS is better overall for being unique, in that it's about mental health, while FF4 was largely a retread of RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER from the 2000's.

Ill give yiu that, I was thinking at the climactic scene that it was well done as an allegory (?) Of mental health, addiction and the support ot requires.

But they , as usual, shit on by not making it counter. Valentina needs crucified publically, them taking her announcmenet and joining the publicity media stunt robs them of their agency, twaddle ending

Absolutely fair point about the ending.

To be fair, while one can argue about its execution I think motherhood and parenthood is a very, very key theme to Fantastic Four, just as much as mental health is to Thunderbolts.

Also tbh I feel like mental health is something that the MCU has leaned into quite a lot, though really only Iron Man 3, Guardians 3 and Thunderbolts got it right. Endgame and Love and Thunder flubbed it, Iron Man 2 played it as a joke, Age of Ultron just undid Iron Man 3, WandaVision and Moon Knight were too fantastical to really stick the landing in terms of realistic impact, and it's a sidebar to the plot of Loki, even though Loki is arguably the best MCU thing.

Still, I do like Thunderbolts, I think it's about 50/50 between it and FF as to which I like more. Both were a step up on recent MCU stuff in that they felt like they had their own point to make rather than being all about setting up the further MCU, even though Thunderbolts is explicitly about that at the end (which may be why that ending feels so disconnected).

I did like how absolutely FF leaned into the inherent goofyness of comics in places

Anyway, this looks class, nice to see Gore Verbinski back.

Not enough Gore and too much Verbinski, which is Russian for bad dialogue

Saw Edgar Wright's THE RUNNING MAN, and I had a lot of fun with it. It's by no means perfect - the ending is muddled and rushed, and the third act pacing is off from the rest of the film - but that didn't really detract from what I thought was a really fun action film that hewed much closer to King's novella. Powell was solid. It had a great near future vibe without feeling like Total Recall...like JUSt enough tech to buy it being the Capitalism-run-amok future without being over the top.

I know some people didn't like it, but I had fun.

Was re-watching RAT RACE the other day...and I realized that Breckin Meyer ad Amy Smart have not only co-starred in 2 movies together (the other being ROAD TRIP) in close succession, but played literal love interests...and yet it doesn't appear as if they ever dated IRL...I know I know...chemistry....but still, a small part of me wonders if they hooked up and just kept it under wraps.

Also Re; RAT RACE: Two curiosities....1. They made Rowan Atkinson essentially behave like Mr. Bean, but with an Italian accent...and 2. John Cleese's fake teeth as Donald Sinclair are SO DISTRACTING...not just visually, but they fuck with his speech too. It's so weird, you hire one of the Pythons and then you handicap him? Bizarre. Jerry Zucker made some weird choices.

I remember seeing that in the cinema and laughing my head off at it. Is be interested to see how it holds up. I recall since pretty funny scenes like where he's driving the stolen Nazi car and falls afoul of those bikers.

I watched PLAYDATE with Mrs Tiste and honestly it was so funny and silly. Alan Richson (Reacher) has good comedy chops and he & Kevin James play off well against each other.

Alan Tudyk (❤️) is not in for long but he's great as always, and plays what I assume is a mick take of Elon Musk.

And of course the delightful Sarah Chalke is always a pleasure to see!

The plot is pretty formulaic and predictable but when you're having so much fun watching it that doesn't really matter.

Finally got to watch SINNERS. What a masterpiece. Seriously, everything about it was thought provoking, and the ending was perfect. The music was incredible. The scene where the music transcends generations was so good. Everyone acted their asses off too...I have a soft spot for Delroy Lindo, so he was my fave, but Jordan knocked it out of the park. I think that's Cooglers' best film by far. It also means that the only stumble in his filmography so far is BLACK PANTHER 2 (and that's due to extenuating circumstances), everything else he's made I've truly enjoyed.

I think SINNERS is going to be remembered. I can't think of much in it that's flawed.

PREDATOR: KILLER OF KILLERS - Loved this. 3/4 of the story are more or less flawless storytelling, beautifully animated. The pilot story stretched even my substantial suspension of disbelief a couple of times, but i got over it easily enough. The stinger at the end was Chef's kiss perfect. I hope we get the sequel they laid the hooks for.

My only two critiques: there is a very specific flashback that goes grey scale for a quick second that didn't need to happen at all because it was already shown and was extremely memorable; the number of good guys in the dance hall over the night gets visually fuzzy in a way that could have been handled better.

Otherwise, powerful and fun movie that gets shockingly deep on several pieces of American culture/immigrant culture.

Well Netflix is buying Warner Brothers...so if you want WB Physical media, buy it now or as soon as you can cause it's not going to be around in a year...
