Finally watched Superman..I felt nothing during that entry. One and done.

Yeah, agreed there. It was ... OK, I guess? It had its moments.

Best Superman movie of all time....filled with emotional and heart and the things that I grew up with Superman...

I don't know how anyone could watch that and feel nothing...like seriously...

The humour was fine, some good moments for sure. I didn't mind the bit about starting in the middle as well. The actress playing Lois Lane was pretty good. Liked Mr Terrific.

But I put Superman I and II, and Man of Steel ahead of it. YMMV.

Look, I liked Man Of Steel, but this movie puts it so deeply to shame. I grew up with Super Friends Superman, and this was him. Cavill feels too standoffish in hindsight.

Watched it last night.... honestly i genuinely enjoyed it. It had all the elements i wanted it to - baddies who are actually a challenge without lame plot devices to weaken Supes, the Superman lore without having to belabor or repeat any of it, dynamic fun supporting cast who do more than scream for help, AND a wider DC universe that can hold its own in a Superman story. I was entertained from beginning to end, never felt like checking my phone, was happy to jump online and chatter about it, will watch it again.

SUPERSPOILERS

Lex Luthor was flawless. Nailed every beat, every scene. Played it over the top and sold it.
I disliked this version of The Engineer bcs i low grade heart'd the original but otherwise she was a good baddie.
Not-Bizarro was a good opponent and while the big reveal was pretty obvious they played it just right.
Lois was excellent.
So were the rest of the Planet crew and I liked how we got just just enough of them without occupying too much space. The Jimmy/Eve thing was a nice swerve.
The JL/G had me laughing. Terrific and Guy occupied a lot of space and both actors nailed the rolls, which were really well written too, pulling from the comics without trying to be those versions. Hawkwoman... honestly they could have done a little more w her. Metamorpho was a treat to see on the big screen... NOT a character i thought we would ever get to see, but exactly the right one, used exactly right.
Ma and Pa Kent were just flawlessly handled, and everyone involved, actors, the writing and casting and direction of their scenes deserves a bonus.
Krypto was EVERYTHING and stole every scene he was in.
Two glorious little nods to future movies and/or the comics.... Max Lord appearing for about a second, which taken w the JL/G cast strongly suggests a future JLI; and Rick Flagg's little smirk when the Chief of Defence made his 'superhumans made the rules now' comment plus the reference to Belle Reve, which is flat out Suicide Squad territory.
The Supergirl thing was funny. I'm in.

I disliked two things... while i understand that for the purposes of the movie the fake news and public turning on him needed to be as hamhanded as it was, it was just a notch too much and had me eyerolling.... the SuperHarem thing was unnecessary bordering on stupid. And the Borovia v Jsomethingistan thing was similarly blunt on a number of fronts. As subplots attempting to carry commentary/messages go these were the bits that spoke to the dumbest parts of the audiences, but i know the industries engaged well enough not to be surprised.

If you've not watched it yet, get on Gunn's CREATURE COMMANDOS show, it will fill out your new DCU Flagg knowledge (as well as a few others)....the MONSTER parts of Belle Reve as it were. It's note perfect from start to finish.

Random thought....why has no one REALLY tried to adapt Ursula K. LeGuin's EARTHSEA properly? Like it could be LOTR-level stuff if done properly. I don't understand. The failed SyFy series that not only missed the point of the novels, but also miscast like EVERYONE...and TALES OF EARTHSEA from Ghibli, which is maligned for being such a weird mashup of the themes in the books and failing at achieving any of them...that's it? that's all we get? Two failed attempts?

I dunno, I can picture like Dev Patel as adult Ged/Sparrowhawk in my head so clearly...

And contrary to what others have said about the series, the first movie being a coming of age tale, and then swerving to TOMBS for the second story would work in its favour for freshness...

I'd love for someone to pull like a Peter Jackson, and shepherd a real adaptation to the screen.

Admittedly it's been a looooong time since i read EARTHSEA, but in my head it's very much a low action high drama story. There's tension, sure, but it's conveyed by dialogue and interaction, not 'splosions and swordfights and fucking dragons. EARTHSEA is subtle, it's clever, the characters grow in the reading in small and important ways. 2.5hrs on screen just cannot capture this, i think. I'm not surprised the two attempts failed, nor that people are reluctant to try again.

A slow burn richly tapestried character based TV show would work though I think (in the vein of Shōgun!)
