All I recall is being so angry I was still ranting about the film a week later.

Greedy fucktards. Their success rate was ... not good before the Marvel co-productions. They seem to have gone back to their more hubristic tendencies circa The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

They're both awful -- in terms of this negotiation, I mean.

Honestly, Disney deserved the bigger cut they were asking for here, they took a franchise that So y had spent a decade fucking up and made it gold by association and good writing...Sony is really in the wrong here and they’ll learn that QUICK.

Bigger yah, but if my sources (yes, i have sources!) are even close to right, Disney wanted 50/50 profit split with Sony taking on 90% of the work.
Odds are a 50/50 split would have still made SOny gobs of money, but why share when you can have it ALL?!?

Given the success of Sony's more recent efforts, i can see how they figured it wasn't worth it. Decent chance they'll fuck it up and come crawling back in a few years. I absolutely itch at the thought of the corporate controlled action figure selling mess the sequel to INTO THE SPIDERVERSE will be.

Or Disney will just throw its red-gloved claws up in the air, buy Sony, and put Amy Pascal on a lifeboat somewhere in Lake Superior with nothing but old Spiderman blu-rays to eat..

YES. This is SO exciting! I'm one of the people who liked the sequels (maybe not as much as the original, but enough), and felt that the supplementary stuff (Animatrix, short fiction on the website, and the Matrix Online game) really fleshed out the franchise.

Also this: The script is being written with Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell.

I mean, that is some HEAVY-hitter literary talent to bring on board (I realize that Mitchell and Lana already have a working relationship from CLOUD ATLAS, but still).

But beyond all else, what do we need to get into here?

Trinity is dead, and Neo supposedly absorbed back into the source as part of the "deal" at the end of REVOLUTIONS.

BUT...Trinity appears in canon in The Matrix Online, where it is revealed that both Trinity and Neo were the result of a program that was the culmination of decades of Machine research into translating human DNA perfectly into Machine code, allowing them to interface directly with technology without the need for simulated interfaces. This is why Neo (Trin can apparently do it too, she just doesn't know it) has a sort of WiFi and needn't plug in..because he was designed to interact with the Source directly (like the Sentinels do, on a radio signal). The Machines recovered her program from her dying body, and she ends up reborn...sort of.

Now, there is no way to know if the writers of the 4th film will take this route, but resurrecting Trinity is not the roadblock that some out there have posited. Resurrecting Neo is way simpler.

But above all else, there is still stuff to explore here...let's say the tenuous truce that Neo (through his sacrifice), The Architect, and The Oracle come to at the end of REVOLUTIONS (of the Matrix existing still, but humans being able to opt out) is strained when ancient A.I. in Zero One (the Machine city) helps some other machines recall what humanity did to them in the Second Renaissance (Animatrix short films) and as such sees a need to wipe out humanity entirely, and refuses to honour the "deal/truce"...so you have Neo and Trin (and whoever else) alongside SOME of the Machines, against other machines. A sort of cold war that bleeds into civil war in Zero One itself...I feel like the franchise is rife with promise for what we could see.

Casino Royale was an excellent Bond film. All the other Daniel Cragi films have been trash. My memory of them is so poor its hard to put into words why but I know I was disappointed in each case.

Quantum of solace - You can only tell its a bond film because the main characters name is Bond
Skyfall - The villain won, and life just moved on. The whole movie just seemed like a way to write dench out.
Spectre - The main chatacer and james bond have a secret history that is super important, except we have never heard of him before. Hell think even james was surprised when the villain recounted the story

@NICO I was gonna make the old joke what sequels. Yeah a soft reboot that overwrites the existing sequels would be fine by me.

I always wish matrix did this as a reboot

1) The Animatrix War liveaction: 1 the humans suppress the machine.

2) machine/human War- the machines win. Humans get plugged in.

3) machine/human war— the slate is cleaned. Humans random offshoot realize they are plugged in a earlier matrix. Revolt 1

4) the matrix original

5) matrix 4 reboot ( the machine civil war 1)

6) the machine total war ( the machine civil war 2)

So, question for you Disney sycophants - are they planning on doing this update treatment with all of their past animation properties?

Ok, we have a trailer now, and I'm thoroughly creep'd out. It cuts off at the 'spaghetti scene'. Good thing to, because I don't want to have nightmares tonight.

Yeah, I don't have to see the trailer! Just the picture on the embedded video is enough for me to tell it'll be creepy as hell!

Watched a few movies this weekend:

The 13th Warrior: Watched this thanks to the Gems thread. Pretty good! It didn't knock my socks off or anything, but what I got was a really tightly focused little genre pic that was almost all lean (and I read it had a huge budget for the time, but it felt pretty small to me, though not in a bad way). The finale could have used a bit more pathos, and there were a couple loose/dropped threads, but oh well!

Prospect: Hadn't heard anything about this but it popped up on Kanopy so I dived in blind. Small budget Sci-fi/Western blend about a father/daughter team of prospectors on a far out planet, where they find more than they bargained for. Has Pedro Pascal, Jay Duplass, Anwan Glover (Slim Charles on The Wire), Andre Royo (also from The Wire) and a newbie named Sophie Thatcher as the lead/daughter. Another small-ish, tightly focused genre pic that wasn't mind-blowing, and had its flaws (Pascal's dialogue in particular owes royalties to Deadwood), but was still pretty good. Basically a short story in movie form.

Wild Boys of the Road: Depression era, pre-code movie about two teenage boys who leave home so they don't have to burden their parents, riding the rails towards what they hope is work in the big city. Has its Hollywood moments, but surprisingly unflinching look at the circumstances of these kids and folks in similar dire straits. The very end has "studio meddling" written all over it, and if the alternate ending I read about is true it is far superior, but all in all it didn't ruin the experience of everything before.

It's very difficult to tell what this will be like, aside from Joaquin's amazing-as-usual acting.

It looks like the real villain is... society.
