Les Mis/Hamilton for me at the top.

Les Mis for me - seeing it again next month :p

Haven't seen Hamilton but went to watch Lea Salonga in concert last night and the song she sang from it was a belter (don't know the name, think she said Eliza sings it in the show?)

Also agreed that Les Mis is superior in every single way - however, superior art doesn't always make superior film. I liked the Les Mis film, but I am a big Phantom of the Opera fan and thought the film was bloody awful.

I can't put my finger on it at all, but there's just something about the trailer is deeply unnerving. I feel jittery watching it.

As a fellow Phantom fan (who hated the movie) please allow me to introduce you to this cool rock cover version of All I ask Of You.

Getting caught up on SDCC news. . .

Oh boy, saw a headline that reads: Andrew Lincoln's 'The Walking Dead' Movie Will Be Released In Theaters.

Watched a few movies:
Fantastic Beasts 2: didn't love the first one, liked this one even less, but I do think the series can improve given the conclusion of this one.

The Spy Who Dumped Me: really awful. One positive: the passive aggressive childhood friend character who pops up a couple times. Otherwise I found this to be aggressively lousy and mean-spirited.

Shazam: a bit disappointing, but not a disaster. Shoulda been super charming, but plateaued at adequate throughout (despite enthusiastic performances from a game cast) -- the jokes, the writing, the plot, all adequate. The 7 Deadly Sins thing was a huge waste though.
Sorry I don't have anything more positive to report.

I’m itching for a new Roman Empire(any dynasty) film or series. Watching Gladiator for I don’t know how many ith time even though I just watched it 2 days ago.

And seeing Derek Jacobi is def making me want to rewatch I Claudius.

I watch GLADIATOR at least a few times a year. It's my go-to Roman media as it's just so gorgeous to look at. That said, hit up the TV thread BK for Roman Empire comments...

The Fassbender movie, Centurion, isn't half bad. I mean, it's no Gladiator or Rome, but it's decent enough.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Tom Hanks, you beautiful bastard. You have another Oscar awaiting you.

Although, after watchig, it seems to be a little bit heavy on the 'Forrest Gump' flavoring. Maybe they can dilute that a little before release?

I'm amused that he literally has to write that it's "satire" on the poster AND the trailer...because idiots are going to idiot and get their backs up.

Went to see Yesterday.... yesterday.

A very fun little film.

Predictable as hell for the most but plenty of laughs and heart. And a killer soundtrack

Ok, watched the movie Searching recently. Wow, a really corny movie, but it still offers up some entertainment value (not a lot, but some). Going through the rigmarole of scanning over your teenage daughter's social media to piece together what happened to her can be difficult to make suspenseful movie gold (a good portion of the movie is watching a mouse clicking links on a screen). It works at times, but most of the time it is trend chasing, pandering to a specific audience sensibility. And the movie does attempt to touch on all the popular (or what it thinks are popular) social media landing spots for most teens - Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Reddit, et. al.

TL;DR Probably should have just called Liam Neeson; he has a very particular set of skills, skills he's acquired over a very long career...

What I like about it is that it actually LOOKS like an old B&W movie. It's not polished. The lighting is very murky. It certainly helps sell the vibe of the story.

I'm also curious if it's an Americanized allegory of the Flannen Isles mystery...hmmm.....

The US should put Willem Dafoe on our money. I'm all in.

And it looks like a movie more directly about the Flannan Isles story was just made, funny enough:

Awful title and no wide release, but who knows?

I've run out of Netflix teen romance movies to watch.

Just watched Always Be My Maybe. Laughed so hard at one point my drink came out of my nose. Not good during recovery from abdominal surgery.

Also seen Aquaman (lame but I enjoyed it), Bumblebee (not as lame, also enjoyed it but a bit meh), The Shallows (why was the shark so angry? Ruined an otherwise good movie), The Fugitive (turns out I never saw it all the way through in the 90s, I thought the big Tommy Lee speech and jumping down the dam happened at the end), Enders Game (seen it before, it was just on, might read the books when I get my glasses), definitely watched some others and a lot of TV.

Got to go, Endless Love has started on TV. There's a lot of shit on during the day.
