I don't wanna pigeonhole Todd Phillips' capabilities, cuz who knows? But other than that I agree with QT. A Joker origin story is a bad idea regardless of who's doing it.

Isn't the Killing Joke meant to be the closest to a "canon" origin story for the Joker?
Just to complicate things, canon as it stands now has multiple Jokers running around doing jokey things.

Wasn't ever into this to begin with, but I sort of remember someone posted a trailer for this a few months back, so thought I'd do them a solid and post this new one.
If they really emphasize the "true crime" angle (as is portrayed in the video), then I'm totally out and will probably catch it five years from now whilst clicking around the channels on my television.

Finally watched Black Panther.
Meh.
It was an average MCU movie, good, definitely not great. Doubt it would even crack my top 10.
I find it odd that a country that is that scientifically advanced leaves the decision of who rules to trial by combat. I know, tradition, but still odd.

What's worse, by their own rules and customs, killmonger is actually the just ruler of their people. Ignoring a few "bad guy" scenes, killmonger is the hero of that film and Black Panther was the villain.

I've been seeing the negative reaction to this film but I'm surprisingly positive on the footage. Don't get me wrong I think a Joker origin story is a terrible idea but as far as realizing a low key, no powers villain arch, these pictures and the animation works for me.
Not heard what the actual script is like but casting Phoenix for this role seems inspired. He has that darkness and unhinged personality that the character needs.
If this is a story like Falling Down with Michael Douglas, with a weird guy who has a bad day/week/month that sees him tumbling down a rabbit hole of violence and depravity I could dig it.
I love the idea of painting him like a real, john Wayne gacey-ish clown. We're so used to the weird lips and black eyes. This is suitably retro.

I do love seeing old school Soundwave. From clips I've seen of the later movies, he's one of the characters most ruined in the Bay series.

I was super excited for this movie until they decided they had to throw what looks like garbage PSX cutscene footage into it for purely nostalgic purposes.
The designs of Bumblebee, Dropkick, Shatter, and Blitzwing in this and the previous trailers show that you can make a successful hybrid of the busy-shards-of-metal Bay aesthetic and the old guy-made-out-of-boxes G1 cartoon style and make it believable. That this movie will now have two warring design sensibilities that don't even look like they belong in the same universe (especially considering one literally looks like a cartoon) is maddening to me. The rebuttal is, of course, that "CGI never looks finished in the trailers!" but the problem with that argument is that the only thing that looks unfinished is the new GEEWUN stuff, meaning it was either shoved in at the last minute, or someone thought for some reason that this looked Good Enough.
I mean, if your criteria are "no longer turns into a 1970s microcasette recorder" then okay, sure.

Can someone link a comparison of the different visual styles of transforming? I'm not seeing how the style in this trailer is anything special.

Hmmmm ... not too sure here.

"Well well well ... if it ain't The Invisible C**t." - Billy Butcher, The Boys
"I have strong views about not tempting providence and, as a wise man once said, the difference between luck and a wheelbarrow is, luck doesn’t work if you push it." - Colonel Orhan, Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City - KJ Parker

Yeah, as much as I enjoyed First Class and DOFP....Apocalypse was BADsauce, and this one looks....meh. Like how many times can they dip back into the well for Dark Phoenix stuff, and why should I care to see it again?
Considering that not only did Kinberg write the last one and this one...this is also his directorial debut...a lot riding on this and I doubt the Dark Phoenix saga is going to cut the mustard.
And this is their last at bat for sure...unless by some miracle, post-Fox deal going through in 2019 Feige and Co. decide to KEEP this cast to insert into the MCU...the X-Men as we know them are toast anyways.

I'd pretty much written off Dark Phoenix, but that trailer has me interested again.
First it was a prequel, then The Last Knight bombed, so it was seen as likely to be a soft reboot. Now that they've thrown in the G1-ified stuff, it looks like the reboot is becoming less and less soft.
