Watching iron man 2 again.

The fight between iron man and war machine, at the party.
Why didn't he just get Jarvis to shut down the mark 2?

It is.

I could watch it over and over.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

This is literally explained in the movie.

Go watch Bright. You'll probably enjoy it - It's not a big budget production but it has heart.

$USD90 million isn't big budget? Is that considered mid-budget these days? I thought the only budgets bigger were blockbusters.

Damn, I recall when Rambo III was $50 million and people thought that was waaaaay steep. Then again Gone with the Wind apparently cost about $2 million at the time and studio heads were very, very nervous. Stupid inflation.

If it cost 90 million I am guessing 45 went to Will Smith.

My comment was based on the way the movie is filmed. The relatively small areas it takes place in, the camera work, the way the special effects are utilized. It doesn't look like a terribly expensive film. But then again, I guess that kind of stuff deceptive.

Hey you didn't start the pop culture Best Of lists for 2017. Did you finally get sick of all the smack talk?

Abyss stole my thunder by reactivating the 2016 litterature thread and I've just been too tired to do the other ones.

I guess I could write new ones tonight. Maybe. If I don't fall asleep. I do love me some best X of the year discussions.

Bright was a movie with an interesting premise and a good selection of actors, but with an overall weak execution and script. From the end of the shootout with the cops and forwards the entire thing was kind of terrible i thought.

I wouldn't call it terrible but I agree, as soon as they start to run, the film just feels like it jumps from scene to scene with little purpose other than a need to full screen time.

Still I feel that it's the relationship between Smith and Orc cop that carries the film forward.

My Post vanished!

Bright was a strange film. Had more of the look and feeling of a TV series than a movie to me in terms of CGI, plot, acting etc. It even seemed like it would have been better as a TV series. The world building seemed deep but was actually very superficial. Orcs are hated for serving the dark lord but it was also an orc who defeated the dark lord? Blooded orcs? Prophecies, the possibility of resurrecting the dark lord etc Lots of deeper ideas are hinted at but they came to naught and we lack any info knowledge to follow them to their conclusions.

We even lack the knowledge to say if the plot makes sense but even so let me say the plot does not make sense anyway and seems to suffer from a not so small massive plot hole.
Spoiler

It didn't really speak to me on a powerful level about racism either. It was a film that didn't really need to be made or watched in this regard.

Just watched Now You See Me 2.

this was a very silly film. had nowhere near the class or slickness that marked the first one.
I was going to compare it to oceans 12/13 to the cool 11.
However, as dumb as this film was, it was still fun, and I'd probably watch the rumoured 3rd.
one point needs to be taken from this, Daniel Radcliff is a terrible actor

OCEANS 12 is easily the best of the three. Come at me! :p

I'll be honest, there is something about the classic 70's European heist vibe that really spoke to me in that film. I loved the first one, but the second one hit some sort of sweet spot for me. I can't help it.

Also, UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY (STAR TREK VI) is inarguably better than WRATH OF KHAN, and is the best of the Classic Trek films. BOOM!

Are the members of the magical task force mages or just the glorified FBI?

How many people are in the world? In LA?

So we have Elves, Orcs, Fairies... what about Dwarves, Hobbitses, Dragons, Vampires, etc...

Would have been nice to see some political machinations going on behind the scenes (mayor or congressman trying to get the wand).

How much territory did the Dark Lord rule? For how long? Is the Dark Lord a Sauron, Voldemort, Emperor Palpatine, or Aku type character?

So much depth that wasn't answered.
“The others followed, and found themselves in a small, stuffy basement, which would have been damp, smelly, close, and dark, were it not, in fact, well-lit, which prevented it from being dark.”

The laser dance heist scene in the museum is the pinnacle of movie frivolity and therefore one of the best scenes ever filmed in human history.
