I stayed up late because Waterworld was on last night. There's no excuse. I'm at that depressed, putting off the arrival of the next day point of lockdown. I thought I had seen it all the way through before but I realised last night I haven't seen the end before.

I didn't hate it but it sure is low quality. Probably linked to why I didn't hate it. What was Kev thinking?

I was wondering, should I watch the original Dune movie, never seen it, before the new Dune movie comes out?

If you've read the books, it's a fun and campy experience. If you've not read the books, might want to hold off on that or watch the SyFy TV series based on the books first.

He was in his hey day in the early 90's with a string of hits under his belt. And Kevin Reynolds (the director) is a friend who he'd done three previous movies with, one of which is the amazing Robin Hood: PRINCE OF THIEVES....don't care what anyone says, that movie kicks tonnes of ass, so he was boarding what seemed like a cool ship...a Mad Max ripoff (not kidding, it's intentionally designed as a Drowned-World Mad Max)...And on paper, this story sounds fucking spectacular, unfortunately the execution left a lot to be desired, and a hurricane took out a multi-million $ set....and my fave bit of this story is that Steven Spielberg WARNED them not to shoot on water like this (JAWS apparently was one of his hardest shoots) and they did it anyways, and costs ballooned from the original 100mil budget to nearly 200mill. When the score was a quarter done, Costner rejected it and they hired another composer, and he demanded rewrites to fit EXACT ideas he had and required they be placed into the existing script without edits...and Costner and Reynolds fought a shitload on set, to the point Reynolds quit before it was done, despite this he got his directors credit.

So basically a quasi-cool idea turned to shit with a massive budget, bland-as-fuck sets (seriously, the movie had the potential to be SO unique and LOOK so cool....but we went with "brown and rusty" as an aesthetic...dafuq?), and two big-headed Hollywood people clashed over creative stuff.

It was a perfect storm of crap.

good film, and I'm still not entirely sure what everything was...even with celebrities breaking the 4th wall to explain those things in layman's terms.

I like Steve Carrell's character the most because he seems to have been one of the only people involved with that whole thing to have had a conscience about the real effects.

How everyone who pulled that shit in the 2008 crash got away with it astonishes me and really hammers home the class war in America.

It's a fantastic movie. Great cast.

When I was working as a marketing director for a real estate firm it was required viewing pretty much. Explains how the housing market was so shattered and the affects are still there today if you know what to look for.

Also, Wildcats is a fantastic movie.

Waterworld is fun. As QT said the hurricane etc it's famous for tanking at the box office, but the principal is awesome. Dennis hopper a maniacal villain, robin hood against him, post apocalyptic on water??

Watched that Vice three part documentary QAnon: The Search for Q. Not a movie, but it got me anticipating a really crappy, B horror movie called "Frazzledrip" coming out eventually. If you guys don't know what that is, don't google it (or if you are in Austrialia, bing it .... hahaha, suckers!)

I’d like to take back everything I said about INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE. It showed up on Netflix and I have it a fresh chance and got past my issues with the animation looking wonky...what a fantastic fucking movie. And by the end I not only accepted the animation style, I love it.

Consider it a 180 on everything I said about it.

Stunning film, and one of the best Spider-Man films ever.

Just watched Tom Hanks in "News of the world" on Netflix. A Western, but I think a tale for all times and ages.

Directed by Paul Greengrass and not a shaky cam to be seen.

Not gratuitous, but also not sugar-coated. A lot is suggested rather than straight out told or shown. Check it out.

Watched 'The invisible guest' over the weekend, a Spanish crime thriller (2016). Very pleasant surprise, it's a really well constructed 'whodunnit' thriller with some awesome twists and turns.

I watched Terminator: Dark Fate last night. It was pretty enjoyable as an action film. Terminator movie by numbers. Some of the comedy lines had us really laughing. "I'm also very funny" in particular. It did not really add anything of any substance to the franchise and I thought one plot point in particular took away from the quality of the The Terminator original which is one of my favourite movies so I'm slightly peeved.

T-800 ruthless killing machine becomes a curtain salesman once his mission parameters are complete??!? Power down or self-destruct if nothing else!

I could easily have lived without it being made but I'm kind of hoping it isn't the last we see of Linda Hamilton's Sarah Conner.

Spider-Man: Far From Home checked off the list, now I'm going to watch Shazam! I heard it's supposed to be pretty good. Any you guys seen it? Is the name that deal where each letter represents a god or goddess from the Greek pantheon? Can you name them? I'm guessing H is for Hercules and Z is for Zeus? ummm M = Mercury? A = Apollo?

Of all the DC movies, Shazam is the closest to feeling like an MCU movie -- a mid-tier one, but still. It's not as good as the first WW or as gonzo fun as Aquaman imo, but it's more entertaining (and just plain less painful to watch) than all the other DC movies. Faint praise, but that's not Shazam's fault.
