Holy shit! Chris W back on the forums, isn't that one of the Seven signs of the Aptocalypse?

I thought he'd left after that thread mocking Jordans death!

Also that cover is shite, even for WoT.

I'm lost. :) Sounds like more board drama. MUST COLLECT!

I see. It's okay Chris, they scare me too.

They make me dance to 'Milkshake' with the threat of death if I do not :'(

It's true. It looks a lot like this.

I have never seen limited edition of WoT
The Gathering Storm will be the first one.

Curious. Why start now?

You asked for it...now sit down and listen!

...back in 1999 (I was 25) I was not aware about fantasy genre. I read only The Lord of the Rings and some sci-fi. Then I decided I want to read more books in the style of LotR. I lived in Israel, I didn't read books in Hebrew at all and my foray into books in English considted of 2 or 3 books(non fiction) and that's it.
So, I went to a local library, to Russian bookshelves (in Israel :)) and started to look at books they had in Fiction section. One of them was The Shadow Rising with a nice book cover and promising blurb, so I borrowed it, read it and..... fell in love with fantasy genre and WoT, although I had an odd feeling that something was wrong and the book was written in a way that suggest that I was supposed to know a bit more of characters than I knew.
I was not good with the Internet (486 PC). No google back then :D Copernic instead. I have done some research and found out there were 8!!! books in the series.
I went to a local Russian book shop....I found 3 out of 8 books and no option to order the rest.
Got very angry/frustrated.
Went to a local standard book shop where they sell books mostly in Hebrew and a bit in English. Figured out that I could order all books there. So, I decided it is time to switch to English whether I like it or not and finally learn the language :D
I bought all 8 books in paper back. It was quite expensive, so I never dreamed of buying hardback editions. I didn't know they existed....

I loved the series (with a slight exception of book 8). Was furious that book 8 is not the last one. I have given myself a word that never again I am going to read unfinished series. Still keep the promise and very happy about it :p

When I moved to the Uk in 2002, WoT was still the best fantasy series I have ever read and when I realised that I have a local Amazon! and there are hardback editions....and ordering from Amazon.com is cheaper in the Uk than in Israel and when I was asked what I want for my BD, I said WoT in hardback editions.

I learned that there are special: delux, leather bound, etc., editions a lot later. I didn't have money to buy them anyway.

Today, I can allow myself to indulge and get a special edition of a book that belongs to the series that opened Fantasy world for me....so, here I am.

Fair enough:)

If you are ordering it off amazon.uk(£148.00) you might want to check out the amzon.com(US$157.50) price first. There is a big difference. £50. Even with the extra postage you should save money.

Done it
I have pre-ordered the book on both sites about two weeks ago and sent email to amazon.co.uk telling them that it would be a shame if I had to import the book from America when I have amazon next door. They said they are sorry...so we will see. 2 weeks before the release I will cancel one of the orders. I have a small hope that maybe sometimes during this period the price will fall even for one day and pre-order price guarantee will reflect it.

Completely off-topic, but...

Are you currently reading or have you read any of The Malazan Books of the Fallen, and if not.... why are you here?
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Dammit. I was going to buy the last volume even though I've been mostly dissapointed with everything after Rand and Mats visit to Rhuiedan. Just to finally finish this off. The serie did start me on fantasy, to give it credit, and I've been reading it for more than half my life.
Maybe I should just wait until the very last volume is out before buying anything more.

Meh, who am I kidding, I'll buy everything like the mindless book consumer that I am.

No. I am not reading Malazan.
I am here because in 2006 I realised that there are might be fantasy forums on the Internet and when I googled, this was the first forum I came across and since then I am here in "General".

Astra has, I believe, stated before that he wont even think of reading the Malazan books before book 10.

Sad really, here he is, believing Jordans work is brilliant fantasy writing, and he doesn't even realise the extreme difference in writing talent and scope the Malazan series represents :p

On the plus side, his excuse for not reading MBotF will expire in less than a year and a half.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"
―Gene Wolfe, The Citadel of the Autarch

I stopped using Amazon last year when I realised that Amazon is completely useless compared to the level of service you can get from your average book shop.

Unless your living miles and miles away from any city with a bookshop, use them instead of Amazon. I only use Amazon to get my hands on second hand or special bundles.

(I notice your location states you live in Wales, so I suspect there may indeed be miles and miles to any form of civilization that doesn't consider sheep perfectly suitable life partners)

Aptorian please tell me you are shopping in Fantask and not an ordinary danish bookshop. I never go to Copenhagen without visiting Fantask, it is just so far ahead of my local bookshop.

ps: If you didnt know about this store you are gonna thank me big time.
