In terms of like comments sections on articles and what have you, the answer is, it happened almost immediately. In terms of like the NRA, I'm not sure they even have to, as they've already consistently been on the narrative that Obama is secretly plotting the overthrow of the 2nd Amendment...I mean that literally, in that their message includes accusing Obama and the attorney general of deliberately trading guns to Mexican drug lords in order to cause a panic and sway sentiment, hence the faux-outrage surrounding the "Fast & Furious" scandal if you've heard of that. All that despite the fact that Obama hasn't addressed gun laws at all, ever, in his entire 3+ years so far, including after the Gabbie Giffords shooting. It's kind of an on-going pre-emptive plan so that any movement on this issue can be folded in as "We told you so". I think until the Tea Party finally fully cannibalizes itself, or at least until the president is no longer black, it's a dead issue, or even a backsliding issue (conceal and carry states are expanding, and the whole paranoid anti-government sect isn't doing so bad lately either). I'd be happy to be wrong though.

That's horrible. I just read that 20 poles are down....it's kinda scary how small a number of poles can affect so wide an area.

I saw some of the Aussie Olympic team there yesterday morning. I recognised them as Olympians by the Aussie tracksuits and bizarre physical proportions. First thing to do if you want to be an Olympian - be born a freak!
Yes and no. The height, the level of fast twitch muscles, the dexterity and balance are all to some degree genetically given. However, the muscles that usually constitute the freakish physical proportions people notice aren't genetically gifted. That's years and years of hard work and smart training.
Most people can get to the point of physically resembling those Olympic athlete s- if they put in the time and energy to be a full time athlete. Granted, they are likely not to be able to match the sport-specific performance of these athletes, as that's a bit genetically determined, but it'd be kinda close.

Just found out a friend of mine died while attempting to swim the English channel. He was doing it as a charity event, and had put so much time and effort into his preparations. He was very close to finishing too when he got into difficulties and they couldn't revive him (they're not sure exactly what happened yet).
Not sure if it's a good or a bad thing, but his wife was on board the support vessel.
He was a really nice guy and will be sadly missed.

It never ceases to amaze me how many Yanks conveniently forget the first part of
"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
They have no need of a civilian militia, what with their massive armed forces. But hey, if they want to listen to lobby groups funded by the industries reliant on the mass sales of weapons and keep shooting each other in large numbers, who are we to criticise? And of course "arms" obviously means "up to hundreds of weapons and tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition per person" because you never know when those sly Brits are going to want to reclaim their Empire. Or maybe those nasty Canadians.
I mean, it's not as if the whole American Revolution was cooked up by their landed gentry because they didn't want to pay tax to the UK without having their own representatives in the UK government. Which would have of course, been them, but they needed the poor average Joes to do the actual dying for them. Which continues to this day (although that's not exclusive to the USA). Oh, wait ...

Batman costumes are banned in the States? News to me and I live here. Or do you mean theaters aren't allowing people to wear any costumes now? Oh lordy no!

Yes that is what he meant...and the point is that it's flat out ridiculous to ban fan costumes at theatres while gun lobbyists won't even sit at the fucking discussion table about gun control.
And Sombra is right when every last gun lobbyist conveniently forgets the rest of the Constitution statement when talking about their "rights"...it's not like they need to keep the King Of England out of their faces anymore.
Think about it for a small second. The guns are what caused the deaths. And yet it's the costumes that get banned. If I have to explain the problem with that...well I shouldn't.
