My 16-year-old "responsible" "college-bound" born-again christian cousin got pregnant. Her parents are of course likewise born agains, staunchly conservative, both currently unemployed, and yet my insane uncle is apparently just happy to finally become a grandfather. Pretty awesome.

I bet they're rethinking that whole abstinence-only sex education stance now.

I believe cockroaches and rats have had a pretty fair chance already, and breed almost as indiscriminately as humans anyway.

Got the day off because I'm sick. It would have been better if it was 2 days to make it a 4 day weekend, but oh well.

The fact I can't even enjoy the day off because I'm actually sick is quite irritating. :)

"Time for bed!" said Zebedee.

EDIT: now I have a fever. Ho, ho, ho ... :(

Haven't had a decent night sleep in about 2 weeks. As soon as I lie in bed and close my eyes I begin thinking about work. And then dreaming about work. And then waking up because of the stress of dreaming about work. It's a part-time nothing job for Zeus's hairy-nipples sake!

Also watching documentaries on money and the current global economy. Criminals at the top ain't treated the same as criminals at the bottom.

And here was me thinking that 'stealing' was 'stealing' regardless if you wear a fucking tie.

Shamelessly stolen from elseforum from a dude called 'Payndz':

Quote

So, when I think of the Olympics it now brings to mind:

A logo from Smash Hits circa 1989; London's vulnerability to terrorist attacks; a fourfold budget increase; a 100%+ cost overrun on that; the IOC and 'Olympic Family' living it up like Ceausescu at someone else's expense; Zil lanes; transport chaos; relocation of the poors; shambolic private security; volunteers sleeping under bridges; barriers being erected to stop people living near Olympic venues from seeing the action without paying; massive corporate tax avoidance; sinister and hideous mascots that combine the beauty of CCTV cameras with the warmth and friendliness of the T-1000; a risible ticket lottery weighted heavily in favour of corporate purchasers; anti-aircraft missiles being mounted on private housing against the wishes of the residents; soldiers on the streets and amphibious assault ships in the Thames; police heavy-handedness; Judge Dredd-style 'instant justice'; brand enforcement backed by the force of law; and the banning from sale of the most British of all foods (chips) because McDonald's holds the monopoly on fried potato products within the Olympic zones.

Sport? It hasn't really featured yet.

And that's not even mentioning the minimum of 500 out of 8000 torchbearers who are corporate employees given the role as a sop to their employers, or the drastic decrease in London tourism for the summer starting before the weather properly fouled up, or the money taken from charities to help fund the games not being repaid until the mid 2020s. Hell, I'm sure I've missed more.

I'm also sure the games will be pretty cool to celebrate sporting achievements and glory except for all the dystopian horror they're encased in. Sure glad I don't live in London!

e: Ha, literally the next piece of info I read is from a guy working for a company that offers free swimming sessions except not any more as due to Olympic regulations they're prevented from doing so from July 15th, I still have five days of info left to go!

e2: OK last one for now I promise but this site http://www.theolympicgamescountdown.com cannot actually use the word London on their countdown because of, and I quote, 'legal threats'. This whole thing is so fucked.

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I know here CTV, the company that has the rights to Olympic broadcasts in Canada is running a heavy ad campaign. It revolves around the catch phrase "The drama begins July 27th".
Drama? What Drama? It's sports not a Soap Opera.

With everything Illy just mentioned, I think I'm more than happy to not be in the UK during the Olympics.

Yeah we're not allowed to say "rain" now - its olympic standard weather.

EDIT: Oh yeah and what the crap is going on in Denver? Terrible stuff...

I will not listen to anyone complaining about the Olympics. Apart from Tiste who has had to work extra, I have more cause to complain than anyone here. Well, maybe not but I'm feeling sorry for myself in advance of any proof of a problem.... I commute through the mainline station where all of the Olympic Park traffic will go from. It's already a nightmare as it's the Eurostar terminal and I'm slowed down by dawdling gawping tourists on a daily basis - when you're running for a connection that means you will get home 30mins later if you miss it, tourists stopping dead in front of you is the ultimate annoyance. Now there will be even more people in my way and packed onto the tube. Harumph.

I saw some of the Aussie Olympic team there yesterday morning. I recognised them as Olympians by the Aussie tracksuits and bizarre physical proportions. First thing to do if you want to be an Olympian - be born a freak!

Sure puts the current tendency for every bit of liquid in my body to want to park itself for approximately 24 hours in my sinuses before leaking slowly out my nose into perspective.

How long will it take for the gun nuts to start defending their stupid, deliberately taken-out-of-context "right to bear assault rifles"?
