This does not sound like appropriate social distancing to me.

Social distancing is over on the Isle of Man which is great and all but this weekend is the first time the pubs have been open in months. It is now a little after 6am and I was due to finish a number of hours ago but I just got home...

I'm only going to ask this once, nicely.

Which one of you sent the cyborg ninja squirrel to ransack the herb garden?

Fess up now. Make reparations, and it will all be fine.

Otherwise, I find out the hard way.
And that was a lot of very good herbs so the hard way will be very. Very hard.
Like chives in places no god intended them to go, hard.
Like waking up in the morning with a head of garlic in bed next to you, hard.
Like rosemary stalks under fingernails, hard.

You have one day.

....and your little furry friend... the next time I see him, he's a merkin. A shiny, little ninja suited, Merlin.

....seriously where did you even find a squirrel size ninja suit....?

In the "How to hide from a cat" aisle.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Bye bye, Segway. I was able to have a go one time. It was .. meh. Seemed like it would be dangerous for clumsy and slow learners too. Didn't really see it catching on and applied in a practical way. Never really considered it anything but novelty, tbh. So many future thinkers at its introduction were saying it would be a game changer though. Pooring one out for the propelled, murder wheels. You had a... run?

As I said I got an offer and will start work this Monday, that’s good.

However I got through to the next round of a company that’s a better fit and pays better too. However I don’t think I should turn down the bird in hand so to speak. Too scared to keep interviewing and potentially quit the new job before even 1 month. I know the us has at will employment but that seems like a bad rep to get.

I’ll have to tell them I need to step out of the running but hopefully I can ask them to keep my resume on file.

I think you take the job you have and then keep interviewing with the better fit. Nobody will remember a researcher jumping ship after a month if they're lucky enough to get that second offer.

If it happens, great. Take the second job and break the hard news to the first employer. This is business - it happens.

This job is in tech sales.

You don’t think it can cause a bad reputation and potentially follow me? I suppose I won’t need them as a Terence but it seems such ooor behavior. But perhaps that is just a tool of control they use to manipulate me

It is massively unlikely that they'd be able to give you a reputation - furthermore you can say that you need to be closer to family or whatever.

You applied for multiple jobs. The best one came through second and you cannot pass it up. There is nothing job 1 can say that wouldn't be an obvious sour grapes.

I wouldn't make a habit of it, but in nailing down your first job in the US, I think your resume will be just fine.

Definitely agreed. If you get offered the second job you can decide then what is right.
