I'm sorry to hear Apt.

Glad you were able to spend time with him.

Went out to a wine tasting last night.
Ended up in the Casino, basically just walked into work like 2 minutes ago, haven't been to bed. I'm up money (by a solid measure) but it's the principal. I can't go past 4/5 drinks without the gremlins on my shoulder taking over

Macros I believe we're approaching that point where you need an intervention if you're drinking and gambling on a Thursday before coming in to work.

Everything in small measures.

You have brought this up a few times before.

I think you need to really think about it. What attracts you to drinking more than you want to? What attracts you to staying up all night in a casino gambling, if you know you will regret it tomorrow? I don't know the full picture, so I hesitate to say the rest, but you need to ask is this just a vice you wish you has a better handle on or is it the start of a problem?

______________________________________

I was asked to submit a report at work, suggesting a 2 year timeline and suggesting ways to improve the project. I hesitated but I decided this was the best time to mention my problems with my supervisor. I kept it brief, provided no specific examples but mentioned we don't work as a team, we don't strategize together and that I struggle to get training. I was nervous but sent it. When I found out my colleague who has the exact same complaints didn't go through with sending it as well I got more nervous. It feels very high school, tattling on the bully to the teacher to me but I felt like something needed to be done.

I don't feel nervous anymore though. On Monday me and my colleague asked her 2 direct questions and she lied to us regarding both. We asked her if she wanted to try expirement A, and could she teach us technique B. She said no to Expirement A and said she was not doing technique B anytime soon so we must figure it out ourselves. We found evidence on Tuesday that she is preparing the reagents for experiment A and we also found out from another colleague that she did technique B on Monday just hours after she told us she wasn't going to be doing it. So I feel like my case is rock solid. Still messes with me to know that I work with someone like this though. Makes no sense to me.

Macros - have a dry month. Seriously. And make some friends, or at least find some (non-drunk) people to hang with. That's the short version.

Apt - I have no words that haven't been previously said, and better than I ever could. Take care mate.

My groove? Of course it's Friday night and after yet another grade-A piece of shit week at my steaming festering turd of a workplace, all I want is some peace and quiet.
Like clockwork, the neighbours across the road leave for the weekend (every weekend) but they leave their yapping mutts behind. Who now start barking. Constantly.
That was 2 hours ago and there's no sign of them letting up.

Every. Fucking. Weekend. As soon as it gets dark, the damn mutts start up and rile up the normally-quiet other dogs in the streets around us. Which whips the neighbours dogs up further, ad infinitum.

This is where Sombra starts entertaining seriously dark fantasies about heavy blunt objects, but decides against it because of the Mrs voice of reason and (more likely) the legal consequences.

Normally I like dogs. I just like peace and quiet, and my mental health a lot more.
I keep quiet, don't bother anyone - well, except you guys - all I want is the same from those around me.
Is that so difficult?
Apparently so.

Can you tape that a couple weekends in a row and then play it back to the neighbours? Not wanting to bother anyone is nice and all, but it's their dogs and their responsibility.

What, the song about an itinerant suicidal sheep thief that is supposedly our "other national anthem"? Perish the thought.

From a poem put to an old English or Irish tune. Every major sporting event some dipshit starts up with "Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong ..." and after that every flag-waving dickhead with never an original thought in their lives to disturb the inactivity of their brains joins in.

Also, why is the squatter riding a thoroughbred?
Is that who the troopers were chasing in the first place when they found the swagman butchering a sheep named John?

Squatters were people in that era who ended up later becoming landed gentry because they "squatted" on good agricultural land and assumed the ownership.
Thoroughbred horse because he could afford it. Like rich people with flash cars these days.
Jumbuck is another name for a sheep. NFI where it comes from.
No idea where you get John from. :p

Gets sung at the Rugby Union a lot which I always find funny because here, rugby crowds are full of middle to upper class private school twats, singing a supposedly "anti-authoritarian" song which apparently best describes our national character. Which is total bollocks.

Oh, and I forgot in my original description the song ends with threatening paranormal overtones "... and his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong ..." (naturally occurring pond) " ... you'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me ...". Yeah, real national character stuff that.

Damn, I'm even more curmudgeonly than usual at the moment. Should go back to bed I guess.

IT people upgraded us to a new server yesterday.

Today it turns out that a new version of our practice management software refuses to install on my computer.

After spending long time trying to fix stuff, the verdict is: need a fresh install.

So my manager ordered us new PCs instead. I'll have to switch from Windows 7 to Win10,

Yeah - jolly. How a sheep can be described as jolly is beyond me.

Unless it means ignorance is bliss. In which case the jumbuck best describes our national character - kept ignorant en masse and then fleeced, bled dry and consumed by the rich.
I can see how the rich would encourage us to be like that.

Wow, Australia truly is "upside-down American".

My complaint today is a little on the 'first world problems' tip, but it's still a genuine bummer: Filmstruck is being shut down. It's the streaming service that combines the Turner Classic Movies library with the Criterion Collection, so if you like that kind of thing it really is like losing access to a movie treasure trove.

Here's his local news channel, better keep refreshing just in case ...

And there isn't a jury in the state that would convict him.

EDIT: I have to admit it's something that's come to mind occasionally since Snotface started dating a few years back.
But she's pretty smart and focused on her career at present. Even though she has a new boyfriend she works with. He's nice, and a bit nerdy so I can't even dislike him out of hand - grrrr! So I'm trusting there won't be any surprises on that front for a while.

Hopefully.

Her mother would absolutely splinter though, and as funny as that would be to see I'm in no hurry.
