The Good Place Season 2 Ep 2.

Oh wow, I know it's not possible to keep the standard this high for an extended length of time (beyond say, 2-3 seasons if history is any judge), but I'm really going to enjoy it until then.

10 out of 10 at this point. No bullshit, do yourself a favour and try it.

Did any of you guys watch Bob's Burgers last night? I'm not a regular viewer myself (used to watch it more often the first few seasons), but they did something really interesting and cool last night. They had 62 fans contribute to the animation of the 30 min. episode. It was really neat watching the style change for each scene. And there was a scene or two where the animation was mixed from the active style to the next. Really cool stuff.

Here's the promo for it.

American Vandal is amazing. I binged the entire thing over the last two evenings.

I liked it. So much better than the Inhumans.

So, I've not read the Shannara Chronicles but I'm watching the tv show and enjoying it. Are the books good and recommended? How close doors the tv series link to the books?

The video that was released out of SDCC in July caught my attention for this, but it was just a teaser. Now we have something more substantial to discuss. Looks pretty interesting to me. I'll probably give it a go. You guys?

Brooks wrote The Sword of Shannara in the late 70s. It's very derivative of LotR, but not a bad novel. Elfstones of Shannara is what Season 1 is based off and is better than The Sword of Shannara.

To add, season 2 seems to be taking bits and pieces of the latter books and constructing its own narrative from it...which may be a good thing.

The books in the series tend to hit a lot of the same notes...and CAN be a bit derivative of one another...but there is usually good stuff to enjoy as well. They are "classic-type fantasy" in every sense of the word.

That said, if you REALLY want to read Brooks best works, you should read his Word & Void series which is basically about how our world ends in a demon/nuclear apocalypse, and the Shannara one begins. Start with RUNNING WITH THE DEMON, and then the progression is A KNIGHT OF THE WORD, ANGEL FIRE EAST, ARMAGEDDON'S CHILDREN, THE ELVES OF CINTRA, and then THE GYPSY MORPH.

This will probably create a lot of initial buzz, which is fine. If it sustains a positive reception after 3 or 4 episodes, I'll probably jump in. It gives me serious True Detective vibes.

The boss has already informed me we're watching this.

She loves serial killer stuff. Her favorite podcast is My Favorite Murder.

If I ever disappear, tell the police to start with her.

@SB

You have a lot of power tools don't you? Better keep that stuff locked up. Locked up tight.

On topic:
Looks like it's a fictionalisation of the "Mindhunter" and "Journey Into Darkness" books by the guy who helped develop profiling of serial killers for the FBI. I have those books, they're really good.

Haha that main guy in Mindhunter is Jonathan Groff, who played King George in the original Broadway cast of Hamilton. Quite a different role methinks. Looks pretty good though.

I finished watching season 1 of The Magicians on Netflix last night. Having never read the books, I found it a bit slow going in the beginning but started to get caught up in it as the season went on. I think the biggest stumbling block was the fact that I really didn't like most of the characters. They were all to some form or another, really shitty people.

That doesn't go away in Season 2. I actively hated even Eliot...who I largely thought was amusing in S1.

It's basically grown up Harry Potter/Narnia, populated by complete assholes who you can't exactly root for.

I won't be tuning in for the next season.

That's what I like about it. But it's seriously taking forever for season 2 to pop up on Netflix.
