Haha, that was a great episode. Did anyone else notice how people kept dropping in the names of Agatha Christie novels into conversation? I noticed an awful lot of them, really made my day . Plus there were some really funny bits - the aforementioned poisoning scene, and when they were giving their alibis. The bit where the doctor reminisces cracked me up.

Okay, so Moffatt-written "The Silence in the Library" episode that aired yesterday is possibly my favourite episode of the whole season so far! Just awesome. I am equally jazzed that it is a two-parter!

It raises some questions though. Who is River Song?

My guess is that she is the Tardis in human form

. What will happen to Donna? What does River know about Donna?

Oh, and I think the Vashta Nerada are a cool monster.....and I also think that they will tie into the Daleks and Davros coming back at the end of the series.

I am thinking that the Vashta Nerada are what make the stars go out from the mid series trailer. Definitely...and that makes me happy that it is Moffatt's story that will be part of the series end arc!

I am also glad it wasn't the filler you expected. It was great stuff.

Oh, and am I alone in the fact that a planet-sized library made me sublimely happy? ... in my pants.

Well, we know the TARDIS is a living thing at it's core, they aren't made. We also know that it would have access to a book like River had that contained all the spoilers as to where they've been, and the sonic screwdriver...who would the Doctor trust with it....his faithful TARDIS. The only thing I can't wrap my brain around is if River Song is the "song that will soon end" from "The Planet of the Ood episode"

Yes, I did think her name must be significant, and the song of the Ood did come to mind. But she said he hasn't met her yet, and surely as the TARDIS, she would know a lot more about earlier stuff that he does, so his current incarnation wouldn't be "near the beginning." And she would have known about Donna from more than hearsay - she would have known what she looked like, surely?
That said, we do see him moving through the time vortex unprotected in the teaser for the next episode... maybe he's being dragged along by her.

Yes, indeed, who knows where Moffatt will take us. You make some good counter-points...not to mention there is also the other really cool thing in the episode, the little girls reality as opposed to their reality

This is where I chime in and whine about being 2 (or is it 3?) episodes behind on the Sci Fi channel broadcast here in the States. The Sontarans pt. 2 just aired Friday.
But its nice to hear that this season is worth sticking with down the road. Its still no Tom Baker "Key to Time" arc, but its getting interesting. And I love annoying companions. The more irritating, the better.

Well as she has a book abour the good Doctor and references specific events seems likely we'll see her again in some shape or form. I'm also quite interested in how she sent a message to psychic paper. Although her reaction to Donna was interesting as it seemed to suggest that something's going to happen to Donna which the Doctor remembers for a while.

Less interested in the little girl as someone watching next to me pointed out that saved could mean saved to hard drive (equivalent thereof) and so it's an AI based world where Donna now is (so haven't got rid of her yet!).

Not sure about the tie-in between these baddies and the stars going out. Would be good, but just seems a bit too convenient given the clip in the mid-season trailer.

Didn't River Song make some reference to the Tardis machinery being rather ancient? Could be a sign that she is the next evolution of the Tardis...but that wouldn't explain why she was masquerading as an archeologist. One would have thought that the Tardis would know that the Doctor had yet to meet her...my money is on her just being a companion from further down the timeline. It was interesting that she could leave a message on the psychic paper for the Doctor, though...

I thought the Vashta Nerada made for nicely creepy monsters...Moffatt really is good at coming up with these.

Personally, with regards to the little girl, I think

She's the security system (she was in the camera, after all) and Dr Moon is CAL, who's been locked off from direct access. The father therefore probably represents whatever the archaeologists sent in which "unsealed" the planet. Either that or something similar.

The other possibility is very Matrix-y, and the little girl is one of the 4022 who were "saved" and her world is the simulation provided for her by the library - we've seen they use facsimilies of the faces in the nodes, so why not facsimilies of their brains in the cameras, to make them semi-intelligent.

As for the psychic paper, we've seen messages sent to it quite a few times. Didn't the Face of Boe do something similar?

You'd think if anyone could do it that the doctor would teach it to all his companions though - I imagine it could come in quite handy to be able to send a message like that. For example, in the Doctor's Daughter episode, Martha could have used it to inform the others she was still alive.

Donna's doomed. Which is a shame as a)she's been my favourite nu-Who companion so far and it was nice to have a companion who doesn't make big gooey eyes at the Doctor all the time. Prof Song's reaction to finding out who she was was enough to give that game away. Presumably a Dalek - or even Davros himself - gets her somewhere along the line in the season finale.
Prof Song is doomed. If she doesn't get killed, in some fashion that makes the Doctor feel guilty (ie saving his life), next week I'll be extraordinarily surprised. This being the Doctor's reason to go back and start his relationship (or whatever it is) with her. Another Stephen Moffatt timeloop (see Blink).
The little girl is almost certainly "Cal" who, one would also assume, is the Library's AI core; which would explain Mr Lux's interest in the name. And has "saved" Donna by downloading her from her teleport somehow; along with the other 4022 people she also "saved."
